Since yesterday’s updates, new iPhone mirroring function and iMessage do not seem to work when VPN is connected. Couldn’t figure out why iMessage on my MacBook wasn’t syncing or able to send messages for a while until finally getting to the VPN in my troubleshooting and disabling it almost immediately fixed the issue.
All hardware is compatible for these functions and worked before the update for me.
Anyone else running into this? Hope this is figured out soon!
I think I might have found a workaround for at least iMessage and iCloud services - Switch the MacOS protocol to IKEv2. I normally run on Automatic. Switching protocols to only IKEv2 solved that issue and I can now send and receive messages and other iCloud services sync.
iPhone mirroring still doesn’t work and Universal Control has never worked when VPN is running, but everything else seems to be fixed.
Same same. Contacted Express today and they said their engineering team is working on it. It’s funny how my iPhone works fine with VPN on but the desktop doesn’t. Anyone know why they would be behaving differently?
UPDATE: 11.60 does nothing. iMessage still broken.
Just got ExpressVPN today and first noticed this issue trying to send messages from the Messages app. It simply doesn’t work with ExpressVPN on. Ima jump ship pretty quick if this doesn’t get fixed.
I updated my MacBook Pro to Sequoia last night and updated my iPhone. Been having iMessage issues ever since. Finally after trying multiple things I narrowed it down to my ExpressVPN. Switching servers didn’t help, I have to have it off for my iMessage to work. Hopefully ExpressVPN launches a fix soon.
Same issue here. It’s not isolated to ExpressVPN.
Here’s what I got back from ExpressVPN support:
“We’re sorry to hear that you’re unable to send and receive messages on iMessage while connected to the VPN. We are aware of the issue and it has been escalated to the appropriate team. In the meantime, please disable Network Lock/Protection and try again. Thank you for your patience.”
I turned Network Lock off and iMessage does work while ExpressVPN is connected.
Just installed 11.59 for Mac. No changes in behavior in relation to these functions.
I’m having the same issues. I have latest update on all devices. Once I disable Express VPN all messages come flooding in, but with it on I get nothing.
I’m switching my workflow to another messaging app. Every other one I have installed still works perfect with VPN on and I’m done waiting for a fix from Apple. I still feel like this is a loss for the customer since it’s not ideal to tell everyone I message that I’ll no longer be using Apple’s Message service. Ah well. I’m out!
same issue here, both apps you mentioned totally non-functional with expressvpn active. I opened a ticket with them, but the person i chatted with had zero understanding of Macs, so not hopeful for a quick resolution.
Has anyone installed the Sequoia Patch (15.0.1)? I have EVPN 11.60 and I don’t want to make matters worse? But I am secretly hoping the OS update might have fixed this issue…
Hey all finally an update. With what appears to be Mac version 61.1, there is a checkbox option to allow Apple services to bypass VPN and work properly.
Kind of a bizarre workaround for a security app but at least it’s something.
Just wanted to share that I reverted back to Sonoma 14.7 and everything is back to normal THANK FUCK. Lesson learned!
I had to remove the Express VPN on my MacBook and then my photos synced up…I was missing 100 photos on my MacBook that were on my cloud and iPhone
If I am not wrong, it is because vpn is working good. For eg. Iphone mirror is not available in Germany but if you use vpn server of usa it will work fine. It is apple who is not letting you use because they detect that you are in the country (vpn’s location ) where iPhone mirror is not available.
If you need Express VPN for €2.50 a month, ping me
This worked for me too! Thank you!
I can also confirm this setting fixed the iMessage.
How do we switch MacOS protocols?
Good here too! Thank you.
