Youtube video stuck on loading

Hi All,

I use the desktop Mozilla Firefox browser on Windows 11. I am neither logged in to Youtube nor to Firefox.

For a couple of days, loading videos on Youtube has become faulty.

Actions to reproduce:

  • Click any of the recommended videos either on the main page, next to a currently played video or within the player box after finishing a play
  • Click the jump to next button during or after playing a video
  • Set the autoplay ON and wait until the end of the current video

Experienced error:

The clicked or next video gets stuck on loading. The browser shows the last completed video. The URL field gets updated according to the clicked or next video. Youtube’s red progress bar header reaches approximately 75% on the top.

Proven workarounds:

  • Open the desired video on a new tab (either Ctrl+click or context menu work). The video gets completely loaded and played on the new tab. Though, this workaround does not resolve the autoplay issue.
  • Use Brave (1.75.181 Chromium: 133.0.6943.141)

Details:

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro
  • Browser: Mozilla Firefox 135.0.1 - with the following extensions (disabling all of them results in unchanged behaviour):
    • AdGuard 4.4.49
    • DuckDuckGo 2025.2.3
    • ESET 1.0.10

Note:

I use Surfshark VPN. Whitelisting Youtube is also an effective workaround, but I don’t like this due to privacy concerns. In addition, the above mentioned Brave browser works fine on Youtube without VPN whitelisting.

Let me know if further details are needed.

Thank you for reading!

Weirdly none of my videos are working on any platform starting from today - Youtube, Twitch, Instagram… not sure if it’s the same issue :frowning:

I’m having trouble today as well, not sure if it’s related. When I check my task manager it turns out Firefox is both maxing out my bandwidth (the very notion is hilarious since I have gigabit) and it is continuously overloading the GPU when decoding Twitch stream video. And so it has been getting interruptions.

Same thing and then it just crashed the browser. Zzz

Same here. I tried disabling my adblockers as well, to no avail.
