YouTube TV knows I am using a VPN

Hey Guys,

Recently got Windscribe for the first time and I am really happy with how easy it is to set up and get it working but the main reason I am using Windscribe is because they have a Philadelphia VPN so I can watch YouTube TV locally outside of the Philadelphia area.

The problem is when I start using YouTube TV they instantly know I’m using a VPN and block all access. Is there any work around?

if win10, turn off geolocation (also in chrome if you’re using that)
also, try double hopping

It’s wild how some services seem to have a sixth sense for detecting VPNs. I’ve had my share of struggles with this, too. Just last week, I was trying to stream a game, and my VPN got flagged immediately. It’s like they’re always one step ahead.

Personally, I’ve found NordVPN.com to be my go-to for this stuff. They’ve been solid for me in getting around these blocks. If you’re dealing with this, maybe give NordVPN a shot if you haven’t already. It’s been the best for me in terms of avoiding these headaches.

Don’t know if this works, but the browser extension has gps spoofing

YouTube TV uses geolocation services to bypass VPNs.

Now I have to research why VPNs don’t “block” geolocation… kind of the point, isn’t it?

I figured out a trick for iPad only it may work for other devices.

Make sure you don’t open any apps when you arrive.

Connect to the foreign wifi.

I used TunnelBear VPN. Select your home country or location. Start the VPN. (Other VPNs may work but if you want it to work for sure do it exactly how I did it.)

Before you open any app.Turn off location on YouTube tv from the iOS settings SETTINGS>Youtube TV> Location (set to “Never”) Do NOT open YouTube tv thinking you can turn off location in the app.

This worked for almost all other streaming apps. The trick is to make sure your iPad has no idea you left the country.

You may apply the “Never” location setting on the other streaming apps but I realized only YouTube tv had it, I tried paramount plus, discovery plus, HBO.
If it doesn’t say “Location” in the settings app then your probably fine.

Hope this helps.

Did you do anything special? I am in the military and gone often and use NordVPN… today when I fired up YouTube tv it worked and then came back and tried again and it wouldn’t let me open YouTube Tv because it detected my VPN? Any thoughts?

This actually worked for 1 of the 2 servers available for the city I am interested in. The first one YouTube TV identified as a VPN the second is in the clear. I imagine it wont be long before they discover it, but until then…THANK YOU!

Just used Location Guard chrome extension and it tricked Youtube TV’s playback location tracking.

the VPN simply connects you to a data center to mask your true IP by proxying it.

it is not exactly the point but you should turn it off for privacy. windscribe does have GPS masking on mobile.

Using 3uTools to spoof locations is way easier. It requires a computer but is much simpler.

I managed to get YouTube TV to work by just turning off location services. I make a habit of never going online without a VPN. They had told me several times I was out of the country, so by just turning off location services for the service it saw me in the location that my VPN was.

Are you still able to use the Philly VPN to get YouTube TV to work? I haven’t been able to get this to work.

This just saved my bacon in Chile, now lets see if my NFL team gets the same love.

Thanks much that worked for me!! I’m out of my local area and it was blocked until I went back…and this worked to kick start it working again! Perfect.

I have not. I cancelled my subscription because I couldn’t get it to work.
