I have a HP Stream 8 tablet that also has 4G signal. It has windows 10 on it and the Xbox app. I am gonna buy a Bluetooth controller if I can get this to work.
I want to be able to play my Xbox one remotely either through WIFI where I Work (on break of course, I get an hour lunch so that could be an hour game time). Or when im away from WiFi and have 4G.
I got a computer I can keep on to host VPN software if needed, and have my tablet hooked to that VPN.
Does anyone know any easy way or any tutorials on how I can achieve this true “play anywhere”?
A VPN would add latency. Open the appropriate ports, and enter the public IP of your Xbox. I’ve done it with both systems being 700 Miles apart.
I have epb 1000mb up and down. Might work for me!
Can anybody answer his question? As i would also like to know how not if i can do it.
Edit: To clarify he asked how to set it up, he didn’t ask what the latency is like.
Was any announcement made on when PC to Xbox streaming will Occur? I would love to play MGSV on my big tv instead of my PC
It is playable from a remote pc on vpn, but I don’t think 4G will cut it, the latency will be too bad. I have vpn configured on my network and can play ~140 miles away without issue.
Edit: to elaborate, the best method is to get a router that supports vpn. I am using an Asus RT-AC66U. It is a few years old now but can still do the big boy features like vpn and also has dyndns through Asus so you don’t ever need to remember your public ip.
Xbox needs the correct ports forwarded to it. I am just using UPNP right now, with two xbox ones it works fine. I have MAC reservations for the Xboxes outside of the DHCP scope. Other than that, you configure the VPN on the router and configure the vpn connection on the remote pc. I used to not be able to turn the xbox on from over vpn, but could play it if it was on, but I can do everything since about 3 months ago.
A while back someone created a post about this.
He essentially built a Python script that powers up your Xbox One thru the internet (as if you were physically in front of the Xbox and powered it on)
This obviously will only work if your Xbox is set on a DMZ in your home router.
I followed his steps and did a test and it worked.
I tried it connecting my W10 laptop thru my LTE phone connection. I was able to successfully turn on the xbox by using the python script and then connecting to my Xbox using the Xbox One app on my router IP address.
It was obviously laggy as hell because I was inside my house using LTE but it worked.
I later tried it at a friends house and it worked great as well.
You can easily play single player games, online games will probably be harder due to latency issues.
I’ve played remotely from work by just opening the ports and connecting directly through the xbox app. Works pretty good, but still a bit of lag, def not something to do any competitive gaming, but if you’re doing some single player gaming it’ll definitely do the job.
I don’t think you can get this to work with a bluetooth controller. You need to use an Xbox One controller via USB plug or the wireless USB adapter.
If you’re trying to do this with a new Xbox One controller (that has bluetooth), I don’t think that feature is unlocked yet.
If you know your home public IP and you put your console on the DMZ, you can play anywhere
A VPN on top of going over the public internet would add a lot less latency than going over the public internet alone.
i have seen a few posts on this, either i did some stuff wrong or its just hard idk.
But the way i tried was, to set up a windows 10 VM on my flash drive(128gb), before leaving to school id turn on my DMZ, get there and start up the VM then basically try to connect to the IP of my console on the xbox app.
The basic idea here is apparently by putting your X1’s ip in the DMZ it SHOULD have been reachable anywhere as long as your X1 is on a good connection and your pc you are playing on is a good connection, but again i don’t know what went wrong with my setup…
I get a solid 60D/10U from my home, and like 100+D/60+U at my college, so internet should not have been the issue. Would love to collaborate with some minds to find a foolproof way to do it, so anyone can do it,
Latency will be more of a concern than bandwidth.
It sounds like easiest way to do it from what people are saying is set Xbox IP as static and set that IP as DMZd. Then to find out your networks external IP. Imma try it all tonight
If you are in preview program there is a program called Wireless Display that does exactly what you want it to do. I believe it runs off miracast technology
Does using a VPN add any benefit over DMZing a Xbox one internal IP and setting it as static?
Will a generic router provided by the internet service provider work?
thank you for your reply. I’ll try both LTE and my work WiFi. (My work won’t care either, they said they pay for it to be used so they just want it to be used lol)
Single player is fine for me, id be just happy playing a full game and not a mobile game lol. Gonna get them achievements lol
Thank you for the reply. A little bit of lag is not an issue. single player is fine for me as well its better than nothing. It’ll be a lot more fun playing a full on console game than a mobile game on my phone at break.
