Why is Mobile Hotspot not using my VPN?

I have VPN on my android device. I connect to a different network location and it works fine in my device and my location gets changed. But when I turn on Hotspot and connect it with my laptop, the connected location’s IP doesn’t show up but rather the original networks IP.

I know I can install VPN on the laptop, but I don’t want to because it’s work laptop. Is there any way to require VPN network mobile as Hotspot?

If not any other device or things that can do it?

Unfortunately you can’t share the vpn connection via hotspot. You have to root your phone (it’s what I’ve heard)

It is not possible on Android.

Apparently it is called port forwarding and most vpn services don’t offer it. Don’t know if it is restrictions on the technical side or whatever…

Not an expert, just read this somewhere around here when I asked the same question

Airplane mode seemingly can remove the threat of Bluetooth scans but not wi-fi since you’re connected - any way to circumvent that?

There used to be a setting that let you do this, but not any more. Do you know what magisk module, lsposed, etc. would be necessary?

It is if you root the device

Just for future reference. It has nothing to do with port fowarding. It is just that iOS and Android phones natively don’t route mobile hotspot traffic through a VPN. That is why you need to root an Android or Jailbreak an Iphone to make it work. Because that is the only way to modify the required settings on a phone to allow VPN traffic to go through a VPN.

Does your last sentence mean to say “allow VPN traffic to go through a hotspot”?

Great point - mind pointing me in the right direction for the solution?

Thanks - wish there was an easy ‘how-to’ article to set it up. I’ll start googling but if you know of one, please drop a link. :raising_hands:
