Actually not everything is cheaper in the US. Health Care, for example.
Because we get taxed to death.
Record high taxes. Income tax, corporate tax, property tax, land transfer tax, insurance tax, sales tax (13% in Ontario - they are talking about increasing it to 15%). Vehicle tax, licensing tax, permit taxes. The average Canadian pays $45,000 just in taxes. Want to do anything fun? You need either a license or a permit!!! Hunting license, fishing license, camping license, etc. It’s BRUTAL
Liberals introduced 3 new taxes JUST this year - sales tax of $100k+ cars, digital sales tax, 1% vacant home tax. This isn’t a liberal issue either - it’s a fundamental government problem.
-
Record high debt. 120% GDP to Debt ratio with guaranteed more taxes coming after the Pandemic. Huge CERB f*** ups - money going to people who don’t need it and they just decide to forgive them anyway.
-
Insane home prices with nothing to show for it. Most people are house poor (articles coming daily indicating 35% are barely making mortgage payments). What’s the point?
-
Record high prices of groceries, gas, cell phone, internet, alcohol, etc.
-
WE Scandal, countless other scandals since he’s been in power; constant virtu signalling drama. Forcing government to hire based on ethnicity and giving “black owned businesses” preference to business loans.
Where are your kids going to live? What are they going to inherit? Many people I know are considering leaving Canada altogether.
Many factors. Among others, they typically have lower taxes, and sometimes population density can help with production and distribution which reduces prices.
A big problem in Canada is artificially inflated prices due to our corrupt government. Companies lobby for all sorts of things. For example, slightly higher regulations on car specs, making it harder and more expensive to import a car and have it modified VS the manufacturer who just does the modifications on a large scale for nearly nothing, allowing them to block imports and set their own prices.
In the food industry in particular, we have food mafias that raise prices on things. For dairy it gets pretty insane, which is why cheese in other countries cost three times less than it does here.
Canada honestly sucks
Because they are. We pay insane taxes on fuel/energy (surprise, $0.21/litre of fuel in additional taxes next year), insane taxes on businesses/income, etc. Everything is taxed to shit. Don’t even get started on sin taxes. We have a culture in Canada pushed by the far-left (PM Blackface) that if you don’t accept these taxes and prices your either a racist, a climate-denier, or some other stupid label that the media pushes and our limp-wristed population just accepts as gospel.
Go ahead, downvote me. Gas prices will be north of $1.70/lite by Dec 1 of next year. Save this comment.
Almost everything. Health care in Canada is way cheaper
10x the population, overall much higher population density
Economies of scale is real
Average salary in Canada: $70,000
Average salary in the States: $51,000
Our economy is designed to be 30% more expensive than the states. The exchange rate definitely plays that big role in it, we are designed to be richer but more expensive than the states.
….Mostly because their government didn’t drive the economy into the ground as masterfully as ours has.
One of the biggest factors is every product that you want to sell in Canada has to be labelled in French and English, this requires companies to create a special production run for goods before they can be sold in Canada
Because canada is a joke. The government doesn’t care about the people they just want to take all your money
Because Canada is a third world country owned by China with high tax rates on everything.
Cause your healthcare is free here
Most things are cheaper in US. I was living in US for the past two years and lived in 3 different states now that I am back in Toronto everything seems soo damn expensive
There is a cost to all Canada’s social programs and some of it comes in the way of higher consumer prices.
Medications are not cheaper. There is not more expansive than being sick in the US of A.
Life is also cheaper in the States
It is cheaper.
Way less taxes, bigger market, more stuff made domestically or imported directly, lower labour costs etc…
Canada also has some very protectionist laws and stuff that stop some competition and drive up prices too.
I’ve always joked that compared to Canada, Food in the US is free.
Beacuse they don’t have taxs but the government can’t affored yo keep the infustructure going or giving citizens universal health care…so it’s a good trade
Free Healthcare: Am I a joke to you?
