Winner winner chicken dinner!
Underhanded advertising techniques. Not a scam, per se, just a legit company being scummy and deceptive, a scarily common occurrence in general
They’ve rounded off the discount percentage.
$2.98×28 = $83.44
$83.44 is 35.946924…% of $232.12.
So the discount is 64% if we see the rounded off figures.
This is a mistake from NordVPN. they said 4 months free but according to this top comment they are actually charging for it.
I feel really stupid but how is OP wrong? Isn’t NordVPN wrong for charging for 4 months when they claim it is free?
I already addressed this misunderstanding in my main comment. Ultimately it is a moot point because even then the service provider is still in the wrong because
1- I was given 24 months of service not 28.
2- Those “free” 4 months were charged to me.
Yeah I saw the other post. Time to take it up with Nord themselves then.
I was just taking about this elsewhere but no one else seemed to notice! I thought I was going crazy. There’s no way to make sense of that amount. I was thinking of giving them a shot, but if they can’t be truthful or do basic math, I don’t trust their service.
I mean it’s pretty clear. It’s a 2-year plan + 4 months. It’s not written 2-year plan out of which 4 months are free.
Not OP, but it is. I checked the official Nordvpn site here.
Yeah, they’re having a sale currently
I live in a different country then OP so different prices but the same math/ad problem
oh, sorry that sucks
Ah I see. The total is $2.98 under 28 months. So the 4 “free” months aren’t free. The total should be $71.52 with an additional 4 months at no charge.
Yes. That’s even worst
It says two years plus four months free, not two years with four months free. So, they should charge you for 24 but provide 28. It is absolutely an error they are charging you for the four months they didn’t promise.
Obviously I didn’t get that.
The only answer you will get (if any) is that the price for 24 months is indeed 83.43 (3.47$ish/month) but they use the full time your getting (28 months) to calculate the effective $/month price.
Got to love marketing.
Agreed.
But OP did the math, but OP wasn’t good at it😬
I think they are calculating it trought the discount
2 years (24 months) + 4 months = 24+4 months, not 20+4.
Not wrong in that it’s scammy and misleading but he did the math wrong. They calculate the “4 months free” by factoring it into the discount. Without the discount if you pay full price you get 4 months less for the same money. Therefor they claim “4 months free!!*” with the asterisk being 4 months free compared to non discounted price.
