What are some good VPN apps that actually work

PIA / Private Internet Access works very well for me.

Encrypt.me (it was called Cloak before, I believe)

I was using VPN Unlimited and do not recommend it at all. Very glitchy and not reliable.

Ive been trying NordVPN for a week and its really good and i highly recommend it.

VPN apps? On what platform? iOS? macOS?

If you are using any type of VPN on macOS, you can use the built-in VPN software or Tunnelblick. I personally prefer Tunnelblick because it is open-source, frequently updated and supports a bunch more VPN configurations than the built-in macOS VPN software.

The more I think about VPN the more it seems like a panacea. You need to trust a random small company recommended in forums to a much greater degree than your own ISP (which you’re still using). The only situation where it makes a lot of sense is if you have to use open Wifi (don’t use open wifi).

Viscosity OpenVPN

Windscribe works very well for me. Check Slickdeals for promos.

TunnelBear, the simple VPN app. Check out TunnelBear in the link in the description and input code “Linus” for a one month free trial.

oh wait McaFee

Are you connecting to like a work VPN or a VPN anonymity service?

I’ve been using NordVPN and it’s been good.

PureVPN has been working well for me.

Kinda related note… I’m looking to go to China in a month. Can I use, say, ExpressVPN/TunnelBear to continue my regular use of Google/Social Media/etc?

I have been using Slickvpn for a few years after switching from Nord. Quite a deal at $5/month. The speeds are phenomenal tbh in line with the reviews.

Riding on this question, are their any VPN apps that basically work no matter what, even with blocked internet like on campus? Right now Hotspot Shield is the only one that works but it also blocks me from Google and other sites.

VPN 360
Been using it for a couple years now

I use BlackVPN. They included countries not even in the Fourteen Eyes (meaning they share data between themselves). I use Lithuania servers for this reason. Once it’s set up, you won’t need an extra app & can be toggled in Settings.

OpenVPN. Just gotta set up your own gateway servers on Azure or AWS.

I was going to suggest that as a joke, but then I looked into how viable it was. You can create a new Azure VM with OpenVPN preinstalled, and the price per estimate month is less than $15.

Sound like a bad deal, right? $15 per month, plus it’s harder to set up, plus it’s only one region. Read again, I said estimate month. An estimate month are 732 hours, or 43,920 minutes, of active time.

If you know how to run a Linux server, or you wanted to learn anyway, it doesn’t seem like a terrible idea.

I’ve been using VyperVPN and have found it pretty good

AirVPN works with OpenVPN app. Best VPN service I’ve ever used.
