Using Proton VPN Free Version on Reddit

I’ve been using the free version of Proton VPN for about a month now and I’ve been satisfied with it so far, but I have a few questions about it.

  1. Are we able to use Proton VPN on Reddit? I’ve noticed a few times that I can’t seem to get Reddit to load if I’m connected to the VPN. This was while browing and not signed-in to my Reddit account.

  2. Related to the above, if we are able to use VPNs on Reddit and it was just user-error on my part, are we allowed to create accounts or make posts while using a VPN? I’d like to come here to talk about my mental health, but I’m hesitant to go into too much detail without a VPN.

  3. When selecting “Quick Connect”, I’ve noticed it always seem to select the exact same IP in another country, which is sometimes slower than others available at the time. Is there a way to change the settings so Quick Connect will automatically choose the fastest available connection?

  1. Yes, never had a problem.

  2. Yes. The only problem I’ve encountered is if I post a very similar worded comment or post (for example, on subs where you look for or offer help in video games); in those cases Reddit tells you to wait a few minutes.

  3. You can indeed select a specific server as the quick connect option. You create a profile, which can be the fastest connection available, and set that as quick connect.

1 - Yes

2 - Yes - Reddit has no issue with holding multiple accounts or using VPNs, providing accounts aren’t used to up vote comments of your other accounts, and providing you’re not using a VPN or multiple accounts, to try and circumvent a ban.

3 - Set up country profiles in the VPN app, including Fastest Netherlands, Fastest US and Fastest Japan. Generally Proton will pick a suitable server but, using the Profile view, makes it easier for you to pick an alternative server if required. Also, a server with the lowest percentage or even the closest to you, isn’t automatically the fastest.

4 - A VPN hides your internet traffic from your ISP and hides your actual IP from the websites you visit, but it won’t hide your devices from Reddit and others (browser fingerprinting).
