How does it work? It give it more revenue by region,? If you are in a region without access to spotify they still receiving their money by the montly listeners?
Unfortunately, the way Spotify and all other streaming services pay artists is pretty fucked up… They basically pay the label the whole worth of all the streams from all artists(minus the percentage for Spotify itself), and then the label makes a pool out of all artists and number of streams and divides that money based on each artist’s percentage of all the streams. So basically let’s say you listen to your small favorite band a LOT, but that label also has Drake signed, and Drake has 50% of all the streams that month/week, this means that 50% of every song you stream(even of a song from your favorite band) go to drake, and very very little goes for your band. Since i suck at explaining, here’s a full length article:
Did you succeed on accessing music blocked in your country with a VPN?
Edited because I misunderstood OP initially: I don’t know that the act of streaming an artist from a different IP would result in them getting paid any differently. If an artist is from say, Albania, and Albanian artists with X number of listeners and Y number of streams get paid a particular rate, it doesn’t matter where those streams come from. As long as that artist is living and producing music in Albania, the rate per stream wouldn’t change.
Payments are based on where your account is registered, not where you stream from.
- Why do you care?
- The artist is paid the same across countries.
This is a better article for explaining this:

Although it’s reasonable to think that the pooled method would result in all the money going to Drake, that’s actually not what happens. In general the people who stream the most actively, and thus control more of the revenue allocation, tend to stream less-popular artists, so the current method actually results in the most popular artists very slightly subsidizing the rest, rather than the other way around. But it’s a small effect, regardless.
Yes, was bit that hard as i originality thought its gonna be
I am using United States VPN. I was originality to use a Mexico vpn but my vpn doens’t have MX aviavalble so rip
I usually listen to a lot of artists below the 50.000 montly listeners, even some below 10.000 or 5.000, and also some artists who’s countries aren’t in the best economic situation. Is really stupid but i want to give my grain of salt to this artists/bands (all of them obvious recent and actives acts). Because i can’t buy their vinyls or merchandising by obvious reasons so this would be the best way to support them without having money
The artists are not paid equally in every country
I hope the less popular artists actually have a fair share, otherwise it’s a pretty jackass move… i know that Deezer has tried - or is planning or setting up the per stream payout but idk what happened with that
Well because every time I tried it wouldn’t work. I think that they determine your location with your Spotify Account location rather than your IP address
US. The money goes out in the same country where it comes in.
Post about them on social media
It’s not stupid at all
Thats a very good thing you’re doing, its not stupid, if you think a band or musician deserves it, go for it
No, but I don’t believe they’re paid differently based on where people are streaming from. I think the pay difference did based on where the artists themselves are located.
When you create an account you determine the country were is located i think. So you create the account but still you don’t have access to it. So open your vpn and select the country that ypu insert on ur spotify account. And it really works for me
I am not sure, you may be right, but payouts definitely differ by region
