ULPT: Can I set my VPN location to a less developed country to buy cheaper flights?

has anyone done this? does it actually work?

no it doesn’t work,
to get cheaper flights, book on Tuesday Night, flights are always cheaper booking on Tuesdays than the other days.

I used a VPN to book a cheaper flight in the country I was traveling to and in its local currency. That’s the only trick that’s worked for me.

Lima → Cusco on LatAm: $150 round trip bought from US IP, $39 from Peruvian IP

Bogota → Medellin → Cartaghena on Avianca: $300 one way from US IP, $85 from Colombian IP, using Spanish site without english translation

And my favorite:

A 30 minute puddle-jumper from Cancun to Cozumel is $200 from gringos, $25 for locals (booked from a Mexican IP, in Spanish, using a Mexican credit card). The local flight was cheaper than the bus and ferry I normally take. Sadly, the puddle jumper no longer flies after COVID.

I bought tickets from France to Thailand with a VPN, tried a couple dozens of countries with the VPN, the only one that worked was the country from the flight company (Germany, Lufthansa). I managed to pay like 100€ less per ticket.

Sometimes it works if you are traveling to that less developed country and buy the flights with a local VPN. Like buying a roundtrip from Paris to Bangkok with a Thai IP address. But most times it will make no difference, it would only be cheaper if you buy a roundtrip from Bangkok to Paris with Thai IP.

liquid ass should do the trick

Sometimes it works, and delete the cookies

Sure, but it will cost you more in the end taking a bus to get to that departure location.

Set it to Albania to avoid Ads on Youtube

Start your trip in Cairo.

Only if you want to fly from that country.

I have done it and it has worked but that was like 8 years ago now. I didn’t set my VPN to a “less desirable” country though but it was set to somewhere in Europe or Asia when I was flying from Canada to Asia.

This doesn’t work. But, some airline fare pricing systems can be gamed by manipulating your point of sale. It typically only works if you set your sales location to the destination country, by using . Be wary of currency exchange rates and laws that govern the ticket sale (i.e. your consumer protection). Works on fewer and fewer airlines as technology modernizes.

yeah this would make total senss… the person living in india is buying a ticket to visit new york from texas xD

Why would u wanna book a flight from canada to italy from nigeria i mean how does it even work lmao

I’ve tried this myself. Doesn’t work. I’ve heard it did once upon a time but the airlines cottoned on to it.

I did. I used a Mexico VPN to book my flight out of tj. Significant cost difference

Weirdly enough, it’s contrary for me.

When I decide which flight to take, I check various sellers on different editions of Skyscanner. Somehow usually Danish and Norwegian editions tend to have the cheapest tickets.

this isn’t unethical but using the destination is usually the cheapest.
