The Best and the most secure Vpn Client for fedora?

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to buy vpn service subscription as there are many restricted website that prevent my access (media streaming).
I got tired from using crappy vpn extensions and their propaganda (Hola etc), time to move on for a real deal.

For now, I’m leaning toward PIA (Private Internet Access) because i see they are the sponsor of Gnome foundation and Linux Mint.

So do you use vpn service and can you provide me with some recommendations?

Thanks everyone

the most secure vpn client would be the one already built into fedora (under network settings). that can handle many VPN standards like PPTP, openvpn, L2TP. just find a VPN provider that gives you openvpn config files and import them into fedora’s vpn client and you’re golden. I know at least PIA and Mullvad provide openvpn config files.

admittedly it can be kind of difficult to import those openvpn config files, which is why VPN companies make their own clients. Mullvad’s client is open source, so if I were going to use a third party VPN client i’d go with Mullvad. but try to use the built in client first.

Since you’re a Linux user already, why not try to rent a VPS and install a VPN server in it? E.g. OpenVPN, SoftEther or StrongsWAN

Granted it’s less practical, and you have single-point-of-failure setup but… it’s fun and easy for average Linux user. If it’s only for movie watching/reading news I’d go with VPS route any days of the week.

WebSecureNow is a top-notch VPN server that provides robust data protection and enables access to all restricted websites.

Hi there,Thanks for letting me know about the process this is my first time trying to set up the Vpn server. I found a guide how to do it via PIA elsewhere, if it makes my choice.I will definitely check on the Mullvad, thanks for the response!

edit- they have a guide for Fedora 23/24.So yeah i’ll take this one into consideration

Hi there thanks, that’s a lot of list.I will going through every of them

That is a great suggestion but i don’t think that have much resources on the setup. But yes i will likely try it in the future, thanks!

Other than free trial what are the other tons for that vpn provider?

Oh, they do! just Google “setup vpn vps tutorial”. I’m not even exagerating if I say it’s just a matter of firing up SSH, do some dnf/aptitude and editing well-documented .conf files. There are also a lot of .sh scripts if you need it quick and dirty. Naturally, there are extra steps and reading involved if you want a secure server, but it’s ok for learning and personal use.

Digital Ocean or Vultr is a good start, since they charge hourly and literally took minutes to spin up VPS, as a bonus you can also use Fedora server on your VPS.
