ProtonMail brings its ProtonVPN service to Android

They claim

ProtonVPN for Android is the world’s only Android VPN app that is completely free and doesn’t have bandwidth limits. Unlike other “free” Android VPNs, ProtonVPN has no ads and does not secretly sell your browsing data.

Free - no P2P, 3 countries, throttled speeds.

Basic - $4/mo, P2P, two devices, higher speeds.

Plus - $8, P2P, 5 devices, highest speeds, reroute through Tor optional, extra security feature, more servers.

Visionary - $24/mo, above plus 10 devices and ProtonMail account.

I love ProtonMail, it’s my primary email address. I will definitely check it out.

How does a VPN block P2P?

Unless I’m missing something, can’t one just SSH or SSL (port 443) their p2p?
I mean, the data transmission itself is encrypted no? How does Proton (or any VPN service), know that you’re doing P2p?

I was just looking for a reliable VPN today. I tried Tunnel Bear, but the terms of service & the often non-working servers made the service near shit.

Anyone had experience with this one?

I tried it a few months ago on PC and it seems solid. The free version is slower than a paid VPN but as an extra layer of protection while using public hotspots I think it’s a good option

Been using the proton VPN app for a few months now as I was part of the initial beta. It’s gotten eally slick in the past few updates, and I love that you can use the TOR+VPN option to browse onion sites (Plus tier user)

1 device, low speeds without subscription. NEXT!

I literally just started reading about their email service. Hmm.

I am a very happy paid user both of protonmail and protonvpn since first release. On android I use openVPN connect to connect to their VPN servers. I have tried the official app since beta and it works fine. But I am still using openVPN connect because I like to use Foss apps.

I pay like $6/mo for PIA, no speed issues, and can use it on up to 5 devices I believe. Works on Android too. Pretty satisfied so far for the last 4 months.

Have any of you tried out the F-secure’s Freedome VPN? Any thoughts?

It works great. Best free vpn nd secure. All others leak data but as i am a user of protonmail i trust them

I have a protonmail account, which I like…

but ProtonVPN? meh, I much prefer WireGuard, wouldn’t switch back to a regular VPN tunnel…

I like the speeds of Airvpn but it leaks my ipv6.

I’d pass.

Tons of better options out there, like AirVPN.
AirVPN also has a Tor option. Tor - AirVPN

I see no use for VPNs since performance drop is way too huge when compared to the benefits.
60 Mbps down to 700 Kbps

Better than Opera VPN?

Everybody should just know in their minds and hearts that there isn’t a single VPN provider in the world that protects your data and privacy. They ALL keep logs (they have to) and they will all quickly hand over those logs if there’s pressure from a government agency because of some investigation. All a VPN does is give you access to a network via servers in different locations (IP addresses). It doesn’t mean that you are anonymous or your data secure. Renting/owning servers on high bandwidth gigabit networks means they’ve gotta be making $ from sources other than a $99/yr subscription service (less im some cases).
