NORD VPN incredible slow this year.. whats happening folks?

i have this installed on my PC and I’ve been experiencing constant slowdowns on websites, to the point where pages either fail to open, are very slow or stop loading midway. Sure, I change locations, and sometimes it works, but other times it doesn’t. Also and before you suggest 10 thousand things i should do, when i switch nord vpn off, my internet speed and experience is completely fine! To be fair, for those suggesting this and that and the usual “try different servers,” that’s just not good enough. People choose NordVPN because it stands out in the market with its numerous server locations to chose from + excellent speeds. If they can’t deliver on that promise, they’re no better than the average VPN provider.

I’m sure I’m NOT alone here, as i have not only spoken with a friend with the same issue, but also saw some people accounts over the internet. Anyway I’ll give nordvpn team the benefit of the doubt for another month or two but If this continues, I’m done.

##EDIT## I have changed DNS to the google one + changed NORD connection protocol to AUTO(it was nordlynx before) and i have immediately felt a MASSIVE difference in speed. Ill keep testing for a few more days but it already looks like night and day in diference.

What speeds are you getting specifically? I’m consistently getting 200mbps+ in the US.

I’m experiencing a slow COMPUTER, not connection speeds… The latest updates are beyond fucked… It’s unusable for me and my computer is completely fine otherwise. But as soon as I turn NordVPN on my laptop slows way down.

Are you using the isp DNS? Try changing it to Nord DNS clear cache and reset the app. I’ve been on VPN 24/7 never have any slow down problems.

I found it loading pages very slowly for months on end and got fed up and switched to ProtonVPN. No problems since and port forwarding for seeding torrents is blessed.

Same here, started with torrents, but now seems to be general traffic. It gets better then worse again, so clearly issues in their network.

I’m on a 500/500 FiOS connection and I constantly get in the high 480’s up and down :+1:

No slow speeds here with multiple devices. You will have some form of clash with something!!!
Not a very tech answer I know, but deleting cache on various apps may help. If you have an anti virus app that’s a huge possibility. Delete it and reinstall after Nord is running better.
Have you checked your phone for any malware or dodgy apps , especially games?

There are definitely certain times where a server gets bogged down and even malfunctions like this afternoon when all my devices stopped having internet access (router VPN to nord). My dedicated IP has also gone offline a few times. Overall I’d say try the web browser app and see if you exhibit the same problems. NordVPN, software-wise, gave me more issues on Windows than Linux.

Otherwise though, I do recommend buying a month of some other VPN service. If you are not experiencing the same issue while using that VPN then you simply let the Nord subscription expire and continue using the new VPN.

Nah, it’s not the DNS. At least not for me. I have max. 30mbits. Changed to 8.8.8.8 but didnt make a difference. I have 500mbits without VPN

Abandoned nordvpn, very slow, crawling VPN speeds, constantly disconnecting my Internet without any kill switch on, worst VPN on the market, their advertising surpasses the quality of their product, it just junk.

Thanks for your reply. My speeds are about 10% lower when the VPN is turned on compared to when it’s off, which is acceptable and expected with a VPN. However, and considering im on a 1GB connection i dont think this issue is related to raw speed.

The problem i think is specific to connectivity. Pages either fail to load entirely or stop midway, regardless of which server I switch to. When i disable nord vpn services this problem goes away so It seems more like an issue with the VPN servers’ routing or reliability rather than bandwidth.

same here still. It has deffo not been a good experience for me to the point of turning nord “start with windows” to off.

Same here as well and i have also noticed when you go into the settings to say change the connection profile, the pc goes to a crawl and kind of stutters does this for about a minute or so then returns to normal as if nothing has happened,i also Don’t use any vpn antivirus as well just the basic vpn form nord.

Thanks, mate. While I don’t think my DNS is the issue since I never had problems with it before installing Nord, I’ll give it a try for the sake of getting the VPN to work.
Could you please just help me confirm if 103.86.96.100 and 103.86.99.100 are the DNS servers you’re using? Also, do you configure them in your Ethernet network adapter settings or within NordLynx?

Nordvpn NordLynx config file on a Gl-inet Slate 2 router

i just pointed out my experience after several tries of everything else. This worked for me at least for now. I dont feel my PC dragging anymore.

Try turning off their threat protection and see. Also try switching protocols. I found NordLynx most reliable for me

Also, many websites now have security measures to prevent DDOS and similar attacks so if they detect a VPN, will intentionally implement a small delay. Similarly, some sites have you click an “I’m a human” box if they detect a VPN or strange IP is being used. These could be another possibility. Port forwarding and turning off threat protection and using the VPN straight should fix it.
