Mixed feelings about my “Dedicated IP”

I’ve been a NordVPN user with a dedicated IP for about a year now. Overall, the experience has been a bit of a mixed bag, and I wanted to share some feedback and see if anyone else has had similar experiences.

First off, I’ve noticed that the performance of my dedicated IP server was noticeably slower compared to Nord’s dynamic service, which uses NordLynx. The speed difference was significant enough to affect my workflow, which was a bit disappointing given the premium I’m paying for a dedicated IP.

On April 12th, I received a notice from NordVPN informing me that they would be changing both my assigned server and my IP address. While I appreciate getting advance notice, they only gave me 14 days to make the necessary adjustments. This short notice period required me to coordinate quickly with the network staff at my job to update my IP settings to maintain access to required services.

The change has me questioning the “dedicated” nature of my IP. If Nord can simply reassign a new IP with such short notice, even when I’ve prepaid for multiple years, it doesn’t feel truly dedicated. This reassignment could potentially disrupt my setup and workflow, depending on how frequently such changes occur.

I’m hoping the new server will provide a better experience. How has your experience been with NordVPN’s dedicated IP service?

I’m at the point where I’m exploring other providers.

That’s because Nordvpn dedicated ip is under the OpenVPN udp/tcp protocol, while Nordlynx is just a renbranded Wireguard. Depending on your use case your work vpn might not let you use Wireguard port 443 to access company intranet files. However if you want a dedicated ip service using wireguard try Surfshark. I have both.

As far as I know, Dedicated IP performance is overlooked by their support team. Did you try contacting them regarding this? I’m also using their Dedicated IP for remote work, and, at least for now, I didn’t have any issues :person_shrugging:

Let the network staff supply you with your own server/IP.
That way they’ll have the worries, not you.
Most likely they’ll then also supply you with the proper laptop/desktop…

I contacted them several times regarding performance on the previous server but only received canned answers.

So far the new server seems to be working better, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

:rofl: I use the dedicated IP so I can work from anywhere. They do supply me with a great MacBook Pro.
