I doubt they’ll actually ban everyone for something one person did.
But yes, you should always have more than one copy of important data.
Based on many posts on this sub that seems to be the case.
No it’s not, the point is to surf securely. Use the Tor Browser if you want to be anonymous.
I actually received one from Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)
mine was from:
Paramount Pictures Corporation
May be mega sent these letters to all their users who visited piracy sites recently
Yeah I emailed them back in response (which was essentially, “you’re mistaken”) and got this:
Hello,
Thank you for your comment and feedback. We want to let you know that we are actively looking into the issue, and our technical team is conducting a thorough investigation.
We will provide you with an update on the results as soon as possible. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
MEGA Compliance
Did you have the file that they are complaining about ? I didn’t, and I want to keep my account, I’ve uninstalled The MegaVPN if it’s going to cause me grief from no fault of mine!
True, guess it’s just more the principle of the thing.
What is a VPN service?
A VPN, which stands for virtual private network, establishes a digital connection between your computer and a remote server owned by a VPN provider, creating a point-to-point tunnel that encrypts your personal data, masks your IP address, and lets you sidestep website blocks and firewalls on the internet. This ensures that your online experiences are private, protected, and more secure.
By its very definition, a VPN connection is:
- Virtual because no physical cables are involved in the connection process.
- Private because through this connection, no one else can see your data or browsing activity.
- Networked because multiple devices—your computer and the VPN server—work together to maintain an established link.
But it states the item in general?
When the first time it happened to me, got a similar reply to that as well but didn’t hear back on it since
I didn’t, I’ve never even heard about it, i just want to delete the account so no more false accusations could haunt me
Exactly, not meant to be used for anonymity
One important note on the ‘private’ part is that it is really only private if you yourself host the VPN server and no one else is able to access it. Even then only the communication between your phone/PC and the VPN server.
VPNs typically encrypt your request and send it to a VPN server so that someone that is using the same public WIFI as you can’t see who you are actually ‘talking’ to. They can only see you are ‘talking’ to a more or less random server.
The VPN server decrypts the request and redirects it to whatever you are actually browsing (youtube, google or potentially a website known for pirating tv shows).
It’s possible that MEGA logs target IP adresses and they got a legal letter stating that someone used their service to pirate a movie from a certain piracy website. In response MEGA might have then sent out mails to every user that has ever interacted with that piracy website. (Even if you have only ever visited the website once by accident)
Mine and yours were different, i also got total of 2 letters both are different files and i had nothing to do with both of them
Have you replied to the e-mail to complain? I have!
It’s there VPN that’s the issue not the storage!
Wierd? I await their response
I did as well, haven’t gotten any reply yet tho
