ISP is still seeing my usage with PairVPN

I guess you’d have to contact their support. Sounds like it should be working afaict from your description.

they shut 4g down my dude, I’m kinda fucked with LTE and 5g, it’s so unstable…

I stumbled upon this reddit post, I thought PairVPN only works on Wifi not USB. If you are using usb it will probably prefer it over wifi, then in this case will be using your limited hotspot data. Turn off USB Tethering and other tethering settings or methods. Just use PairVPN on both ends only and it should work out I hope.

ALot easier said then done. I don’t have the money. I currently live in a low-income boarding house. This is all I can afford. I work full time and make decent money but child support takes 35%.

I second a “true” VPN. Aside from the packet TTLs, there are all sorts of things that can be detected by Deep Packet Inspection: browser user agents, etc. All unencrypted payloads (that will happily announce they’re not from a phone) can cause issues. Just food for thought. Wireguard on the phone and an AWS instance does the trick for me :+1:

No…Only 1 endpoint. I don’t know much about networking…So this is all new to me. I just need internet in order to work and talk with my son. I cant see him right now because I have no way to get to him. This is my only connection to him

So, if you go into your phones settings, click connections, mobile networks, then network, you can’t change it back to LTE/3G/2G? It’s stuck on 5G/LTE/3G.2G?

So, this whole situation has really stumped me…It’s soooo very odd. Here’s where I’m at with it. I work on my laptop and game…Everything but some select game works perfectly fine using a program like EASYTETHER or PDAnet+. Yes, the connection is atrocious, but it’s all I can afford right now. Here’s where it gets odd though, PairVPN suddenly starting masking some of my usage…Like, I’ll spend 3 hours playing battlefield, I should be using maybe 6-800MB of data…WHile using PAirVPN, its registering like 100MB. So, yes it does somewhat mask it. It does allow me to stretch my data for a little longer, but it’s not a fix. I’m looking into this T-mobile home internet for like 50 bucks a month].

I don’t TOO much about networking. I am a database dev…so I know computers, but networking is just a whole different beast for me. This is all new. I am currently in a real bad spot financially, and cant afford internet…but I need internet in order to do my job. So, right now, this is my only option. I just need something reliable. PDAnet seems to working again, as long as I’m not gaming. Once I start gaming, PDAnet disconnects (it says the connection was forced stopped on the phone, NOT the app…just the connection). You use wireguard and AWS? What’s on your server instance that’s allowing you to hide your usage?

no I can change it to whatever, but in my area I guess 4g well 3g/2g is shut down. and it was so solid I could play online games with it.

if I put it on 4g my old settings it says a e at top of the bars, full signal just a E and can’t do shit.

AWS EC2 Free Tier will do the job, here’s a pretty good walkthrough. Some more clever folks have gone serverless with Lightsail, which has the cool factor for sure, but I consider to be overkill or even just showing off. It’s still neat tho.

And, no worries about not being a networking specialist! SQL is dark magic in my book! I mean, just look at the incantations! And little Bobby Tables… it’s a whole different world!

Edit to add: the official Android Wireguard client is on Google Play. Go forth and be happy!

ohhhh…damn. Where I’m from, I don’t think there’s enough 5G towers to just validate turning the 4g servers off. Go on google and make sure you you’re phone company doesn’t require you to change APN’s when switching between 4g and 5g. Google, “[Phone Company] APN for 4G”. then do the same for 5g and compare. You may just need to a second APN. I’m kinda just throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks. I’m not too sure why it aint working for you

Hmm it’s also giving me Nat type 3 which I think is the problem as well. I can put it on 4g lte but nothing changes.

So here’s a update on my situation my phone is pretty much a garbage old gaming phone that don’t support half the bands for TMobile or metropcs. So I figured out how to use pairvpn in hotspot mode I think I did anyway, I turn on my hotspot and then turn on pairvpn connect the phone to pc, then I turn on my ps5 and now have Nat type 2 hoorah but its extremely slow, so I’m gonna get a new phone that’s compatible with all the bands and try to pull some higher speeds if that don’t work I’m going to T-Mobile with the max plan so I don’t get deprioritized. Not really sure what else I can do because I live about a mile away from two towers.

Doing it this way now gives me type 2 on 4glte so this is progress lol.
