Is the free plan really free without selling my data or using my network as a VPN?
Yes it’s completely free without the worry of us selling your data or using your network as a VPN node. I know there are some nasty free vpn providers out there that do, but Windscribe isn’t a free vpn. It’s a freemium VPN, which means our paid users offset the cost of all the free plan users. All free users are treated equal (minus the bandwidth limitation and location count) to all our paid users.

What? Like you said there was basically no customer data on the servers, and this has since been fixed as all VPN nodes now keep no data on disk.

Yeah they went to court but despite the seizure and the set up (which was legacy but industry standard at the time) nothing was gleaned. The location servers still had encrypted protocols running. It was the machine itself. But because of how they function there’s still nothing on it they could recover or use. The issue itself isn’t akin to how Nord etc when they were breached.
If they had better skills and understanding it could have been a horrible situation for us. Luckily that’s not how it played out. These days we are RAM only diskless. Luck will never be a factor again.
