Hello, my first post on this subreddit.
I recently bought a VPN (S.S.) subscription and love the speed, features, and privacy it provides.
I always keep the VPN on auto-connect and kill switch on my laptop.
Is it worth keeping the VPN on and connected on my Android phone? I already have a secure DNS configured (NextDNS) that I love for blocking nearly every Ad and tracker from my phone.
There are a few annoying times when things won’t work correctly, mainly public wifi landing pages. I’ve had to turn off my phone’s VPN at hotels or on an airplane to be able to click “accept” for the wifi. (Then I turned it right back on)
I tend to keep it off at home or when I’m just on the cellular network. But I love having it for public wifi or when I want to change my location.
Did it for a while. Most annoying is when google be like „you a bot bro?“ and lets you do captcha before any search is possible. Otherwise probably not a bad idea but battery life will be severely effected
On iPhone: For years I’ve been using first the openVPN client then Passepartout with the VPN I use. Passepartout uses minimal battery compared to some of the more common apps out there. Wireguard is very useful, but if I’m blocked I’ll try a few UDP or TCP configurations to hopefully get around. If I can’t get past a website, I’ll use anonymous on StartPage that always goes through. Your server selection might be a problem if they’ve been tagged as unfriendly by whoever you’re trying to connect with or its service provider. You will always be learning, changing, checking as you go. I feel it’s well worth it. One thing to keep in mind, some apps may bypass the VPN.
Not to be that person but its affected when you talk about what something does to another thing
I have an always on VPN and don’t really notice any chance in battery life tbh. If there is (and there most likely is as an app is running in the background) it’s negligible.
Why would people downvote the truth? So many people don’t know the difference between effect and affect, and it is getting worse.
Effected is an effect. Affected is what you meant.
Oh I was just confused by the reply I didn’t even realize that dude spelled a word wrong
