Ip question while using windscribe and mobile hotspot

This maybe a “basic” question but I’ve noticed that when I have windscribe running and then turn on my mobile hotspot and connect to it via my desktop the desktops IP address displays like I’m not even using windscribe. I checked my phone’s IP at the same time and it’ll show the windscribe server IP address that I’m currently connected to but, again on my desktop it shows my IP address like I’m not even using a VPN.

Edit: windscribe VPN and the mobile hotspot are on an Android phone

Hotspot shares your internet connection connection, not your VPN connection. Your VPN connection is on your device and connects over the internet, there is no way to share it though hotspot, because other devices wouldnt have the keys to use the VPN.

In other words, if your streaming a video, turn on mobile hotspot another device connects to the hotspot they cant see the video your streaming.

A better example is, if other people are on your wifi / internet connection they cant see the traffic (and cant use its connection) your sending even if they are on the same network or connected directly to your device (kinda the point of a VPN).

Define Mobile Hotspot, and where Windscribe is running. If you are connecting to your hotspot AFTER launching windscribe on your PC, then no it won’t route the traffic that’s going over the hotspot, you’ll need to start the hotspot connection first, as windscribe only makes rules for active connections when it connects. If you are running windscribe on your “Mobile Hotspot” (A phone perchance?) then typically, unless the phone is rooted, it would only route the phone/devices traffic that originates on the device, other traffic coming inbound and redirecting would bypass the rules for windscribe. If you are referring to an actual Mobile Hotspot, that supports windscribe, you would probably need to make the connection from your laptop before starting windscribe, as again, it only makes rules for active connections.

You can’t share the VPN connection via hotspot on iPhone as it uses a different network, one that is provided by the carrier.

See that’s what I was thinking or at least something along the lines of it having to do with the VPN key(s).

That’s what I’ve been doing before I even boot my PC up I’ll start up windscribe and then boot the PC and turn on the hotspot on my Android phone. Also if/when I try to do it the other way around (get my PC connected to my hotspot then start windscribe) depending on the protocol and server I’m trying to connect to it will either take insanely long to connect or be almost instant.

I don’t have an iPhone but thanks for the info.

My bad. No info on what kind of phone was given so I assumed that is what you were using.

Definitely will give it a look. Thanks

No your good twas my fault I thought I had specified the device.
