I wanted to renew my AVG Anti Virus, but when I add it all up it's like $300. Any alternatives?

bro, You actually dont need it, Here is why

Windows update instantly updates drivers every time you restart and update

Windows security is good enough u can add malwarebytes free too with it to be insanely good

Vpn alternative is proton vpn and tunnel bear. its all free

If your really that sketched out about getting a virus then u can add rogue killer with it too, It might have some annoying ads but when u scan it does the job too

And about anti track just use malwerebytes browser guard and disable it on youtube.

Boom thats my cheap ass doing things

Most of the time you don’t need to update drivers unless you have a problem.

For your GPU, AMD or Nvidia you can download them from their website when you want ot update.

Intel or AMD CPU, chipset drivers etc can be done from the respective website.

Motherboard drivers are the same, from the manufacturers website.

This is only usually when you have a problem with something not working. I tend to read the update note to see what has changed and if theres a security issue fixed, i’ll update. Other than that, a major feature is the only other thing to get me to update drivers.

For drivers that windows does not update automatically:

It’s not recommended to update Motherboard, BIOS, etc. drivers often unless you are experiencing issues, as they often change things that could cause instability on existing systems, so if it works don’t touch it.

Your graphics cards drivers do need updated, or it at least is recommended to do so. However, each has their own built-in software to update and notify you; GeForce Experience for Nvidia, and AMD Adrenaline for AMD. It’s much faster and simpler to do those anyway.

It is funny that he listed everything possible but didn’t mention a firewall module

https://www.security.org/antivirus/antivirus-consumer-report-annual/

Ah yes, the 4 years old Nvidia driver that Windows loves so much.

Ay that best regrads thing is mods only :rage:

AV-comparatives and AV-test are massive. Also, your English is broken.

What does antivirus market share have to do with this?

Security.org is literally sponsored by TotalAV btw

The “update your drivers” software isn’t much better then Windows, and what kind of person doesn’t do “check for updates” getting a new computer?

it really is. try it yourself. do a clean windows install, with full updates. then run Snappy Driver Installer Origin.

80 % of people don’t update anything else than GPU. can’t be bothered to learn how to id components, look them up, and update them 1 by 1. especially when you hit a laptop driver page with 40 items.

I’ve made it a point to look up those ones in particular though I’m not on laptops regularly, and I’ve started doing that manual driver check after ID of components since I had custom PCs built for me. Always made sure the GPU, CPU, and motherboard had updates but otherwise I used whatever program came with them.

well, try Snappy Driver Installer Origin.

The program’s tiny and it only downloads 20 mb of index, so it would only take you 2-3 minutes to see if it finds anything.

So you’re basically advertising one of the only decent ‘driver all in one’ downloaders. I’ll give it the fact it’s open source at least.

I mean, it’s free, so …

It’s just that I’ve been tweaking PCs for gaming 25 years now. I’ve tried TONS of stuff, on TONS of computers. And I’ve always wanted to be better, so I asked a lot of ‘‘why’’ and ‘‘how’’.

That’s why it irks me to have people discredit me when they usually don’t know what they’re talking about.

You sound like a real joy to talk to
