I recently started using Popcorn Time to watch movies. I’m very excited to have all these movies for free without problems. I kept hearing “get a VPN” so I got a free one called Hotspot Shield. I don’t know much about things like this so I don’t fully understand what a VPN is but this one seemed good so I got it. I have watched one movie so far by downloading it and watching it offline. But after that, it did not let me delete the movie from my computer. It said I need permission from the administrator or something. I googled how to get around this and I found out that starting Windows 10 in safe mode would let me. So I did, and it worked. But now I want to watch another movie and I am a little concerned about this. This normally doesn’t happen with any files I try to delete and I am wondering if it is abnormal. It’s also going to get annoying to have to restart my Windows 10 to safe mode every time I need to delete a movie when I’m done watching it.
Can someone help who knows a little more about this than I do?
This sub only supports the official version of Popcorn Time. If you want to try this version then read the second pinned post which explains how to get and use the app.
There are many different forks from many different developers some genuine and some not so. This version is from a group of Devs carrying on with the original build with the same ethos of all code being open source, zero ads or malware and no user registration required. This graphic here explains the different builds.
If you’re happy with the online version and have had no issues then continue to use it but generally on this sub you’ll find it difficult to get help with any issues unless you use the supported version.
Just my personal view but I would be concerned with what background process was still running which wouldn’t allow the user to delete a downloaded file.
Got it. One more thing: after deleting it, I ran a windows virus scan and it said that everything was safe and I didn’t have any viruses. Can that be wrong?
I wouldn’t think so as the OS security shouldn’t let anything through. I don’t know anything about the online version so I’ve no idea if it’s a legit fork or not.
