I can no longer subscribe to F1TV from Germany with a VPN. Do you also have this problem?

Last year I discovered the possibility of subscribing to the subscription package with all live streams from Germany via the F1TV app by simply setting your location, e.g. in the USA, with a VPN. In the app, you could then simply pay via your Google Play account with Paypal. Now I wanted to reactivate the subscription, but the app throws me one error message after another. From the registration to the subscription. I also tried to create a new account, but there too I get an error message as soon as I want to take out a subscription.

Has something changed with F1TV this year that is preventing me from subscribing, or are others having this problem?

Edit: What helped was trying a different server, because they irregularly update their “known” VPN exit node lists (list of IP addresses of VPN providers). For me, the Greece server from Ghost VPN worked. Thanks u/cafk for your help.

You may need to set up a new account on a different email

Try a different server, they irregularly update their “known” VPN exit node lists (list of IP addresses of VPN providers).

Instead of resubscribing via the app - check if in Google Play under profile → Payment & Subscriptions, if it’s maybe still active, or if you can renew it there.

Also, without saying what error you’re getting it’s kind of hard to analyse if it’s a F1TV, Google Account or VPN issue.

I tried your solution, but looks like my problem is slightly different - my subscription is already active on google play, but f1tv pro doesn’t recognize it and I cannot use restore purchase (‘something went wrong’)…

nordVPN and protonVPN both do not work for me.

I tried creating new accounts with different emails while I was signing up for a new subscription. I always got the message that my new account was successfully created, but that the purchase of the subscription could not be completed.

But I already found the solution by switching to another VPN Server.

That’s what I tried first. I was able to sign up for the subscription again in the Google Play Store. But I was told that I had to open the F1TV app to activate the subscription. When I then tried to restore the purchase in the app, it just gave me an error message again.

Unfortunately, the error messages are totally generic and do not help. They are messages like “Your account could not be created, try again later” or "An error occurred while restoring your purchase”.

But I will try it with different VPN servers. Let’s see if that changes anything.

Edit: I have now used a VPN server from Greece and it worked. Thanks for the tip!

Any idea what can be done if the subscription worked and google play recognizes it, but it’s not unlocked on F1TV app nor can I use ‘restore purchases’? I suspect it may not be the VPN. not sure if they detect origin of google accounts.

Just reactivatingwas my subscription via the store was the first thing I tried as well. Also got that error message. The only thing that helped was completely canceling the subscription in the play store and making a new one with a new account in the from the F1TV app.

which one?

Glad i could help - their error messages aren’t that useful. It should at least indicate if it’s a region/vpn specific issue, when restoring a purchase - as there are a few people who actually use VPN generally as a additional privacy protection.

Can I ask how you did it? you did the entire thing on the mobile phone? you registered a new account or used a current one? which VPN did you use on your phone?
Thank you!

  1. Created a trial account for Cyber Ghost VPN, via the Desktop App on my Mac with a throw away mail (10 Minute Mail).
  2. Installed the Cyber Ghost VPN app on my phone.
  3. Logged in with my trial account.
  4. Set my location to Greece.
  5. Installed the F1TV app on my phone.
  6. When opening the app you can login to an existing account or start a new subscription. I selected to start a new subscription.
  7. Selected the desired plan, filled out the forum and selected Greece as location
  8. Paid via Google Play, with the payment method I set up beforehand in the Google Play Store.
  9. Done.

Did you need an email address from Greece or did you use your normal one?

I did not create a new GOOGLE account for this.

I used a mail from a 10-minute-mail website. So there’s no special greece mail necessary.

Strange. That’s the one thing that always worked for me. Are you completly logged out in your F1TV app, when looking for he subscriptions?

I used PayPal with Google Pay. But okay.

At least you can get the subscription with all services for a higher price. The german F1TV subscription does not include Livestreams, basically the only reason why someone would want F1TV. So we have to use this VPN method to properly use thier service.

So we have the same problem. Sky is such a scam. Super expensive but offer just a fraction of content and features. But they somehow managed to be the only viable option here.
