Does anyone know if this addon still has malware? What are the effects of using it? I am using a late 2012 MacBook Pro Running on OSX 10.8.5.
No malware. I’ve had a great experience with it. I’m running it on Chrome with Windows 8.1. It’s easy to manage, to switch between countries according to need. I originally got it to watch the rest of the last season of Breaking Bad on Netflix before it was released. Worked perfectly!
Just a suggestion, but you should look into updating your MacBook to the latest version of OS X, 10.9.2.
The update from your current version to the latest version is a free upgrade which patches a very vulnerable SSL bug.
Or just ignore me if you’re already aware and have made the decision to stick with your current version for your own reasons.
Last I heard it was still bought out by a shitty company that was using it to track/monitor all the websites you visit. There’s plenty of alternatives out there, don’t use Hola.
ok thanks! I’ll re download it then. I’ll just turn it off depending on what website I go to. Thanks for the reply!
I haven’t upgraded because I heard the latest version of OSX has issues. Have you heard anything?
Whats a better alternative?
It only is on if you turn it on for that site. So for example, I’m in Canada. When I browse 99% of the internet, I’m browsing normally, no proxy. If I get to a site that is geo-blocked, I click on the Hola icon and tell it what country I want to be in when I use that URL. It remembers, and only send me through a proxy when I go to sites I’ve set up.
I don’t run OS X myself so I’m not aware of any issues. I just remember all of the articles back in February talking about the severity of the bug.
I was trying to avoid stating the one I use since it’s in a Free phase right now and if too many people use it it may be pay-to-use, but I use Zenmate.
Do you want it for privacy use or to access websites that you can’t in your country? If it’s for the second reason you should turn it off when you’re not trying to access that site.
