Help! XFinity/Comcast broke my bittorent client!

I’ve been a customer of XFinity for over 4 years and have been using BiglyBT to download TV shows/games/movies/etc/ through a VPN (Mozilla VPN). I’ve been having problems with the internet going down multiple times per day so I contacted customer support. They rebooted the modem a couple times (and I assume updated the firmware) and now it seems to be down less (96% uptime vs. 70% uptime). But I also noticed that my bittorent client is massively throttled. I used to get between 4-7 MB/s wheras now I max out at 150 kB/s. I used to be able to download multiple files at a time and now it’s struggling to do one at a time. This happens with the VPN client on and off as well as going to a different VPN server.

Is there something I can change in my BiglyBT client that can fix this, or else how do I communicate this problem with my ISP since they tend to frown on bittorent usage?

Thanks!

Are you binding the torrent client to the VPN? If not this could be why performance is the same with or without the VPN on, in fact that is almost definitely the case since a blind client wouldn’t work when a VPN is off.

Likely when they updated the firmware it wiped out whatever firewall/ port forward nonsense was going on to allow the torrenting through the main connection.

A VPN though doesn’t require anything from your router since the VPN is directly tunneling you to the Internet.

Get a torrent client you can bind to your VPN interface, it’s all detailed in the pinned post, and test it that way.

Also I’d consider getting your own modem. Comcast is full of fuckery. I’ve had my own modem for years now. I love it and have never regretted it, and I save money because I’m no longer paying equipment fees.

Good tips, and are you hard wired or Wifi? Make sure to test hardwired, your wifi could be a source of performance loss.
