I just got my G7 from Costco and so far, initial setup has been a bad experience.
I download the G7 app (iPhone SE 2022 running iOS 17.6.1) and created a Dexcom account within the app. Then when I got to adding a sensor, it suddenly gave me the following message:
Error
Country of residence issue
Your Dexcom country of residence is different from your phone’s location.
I selected United States as my country of residence and am in Los Angeles, California, USA right now. My internet connection is a local cable company (Charter/Spectrum) so it should give a US IP. I have location services enabled for the G7 app in iOS settings.
I just sent a support ticket to Dexcom. They had a warning about having a high volume of support requests so who knows when this will get resolved.
This is seriously annoying for a first time user.
Edit: Problem solved. I went to my desktop and had a live chat with Dexcom customer service (no wait time). They had me uninstall the G7 app, restart the phone, disable wifi and use cellular, then re-install the G7 app and that got it working. Anyway, I’m very happy now. Results from the G7 are closer to my finger sticks vs the Libre 3. Barring the setup issues I encountered, the Dexcom apps are way better than the Libre apps.
The location check sucks! Sometimes it’s spotty.
If you reinstall then it might figure things out.
Los Angeles, it’s a whole other country.
Is your Apple account set up under a different country other than United States because that matters also
Thanks. Reinstalling and using cellular instead of wifi for setup worked.
Region is set to United States.
No, an app doesn’t know what country your App Store account is set to.
The “Country of Residence” issue is after installing the app and while setting it up.
But you’re right that only countries where G7 is authorized for sale will be able to see G7 in the App Store.
You have to stop using your VPN to access the internet via Venezuela.

Never mind, I forgot to read your update
This is not true. There are different app stores with different versions regarding the country status.
I don’t use a VPN unless I’m connected to public wifi. Genuine question, why Venezuela?
G6 was an app with regional variants. They stopped doing that with G7. It’s now one app, distributed globally, that checks the servers for its configs and options.
I don’t understand what you’re saying. That has nothing to do with the post-install “Country of Residence” check during setup.
It was only meant as a funny joke. Also reason the smiley put afterwards.
But yes for real, if using VPN to simulate you are physically geo-located in another country than where your phone ID is matching to, then such error would pop up, as the companies wants to block cross border- trading and/or use of medical devices. Venezuela was just a pick, as a low income country where (if available) the product price would typically be much cheaper versus USA.
