Does surfshark work on school wifi? I need a vpn that will unblock restricted apps and websites on school wifi. Currently using skyvpn and it doesn’t work on school wifi, I think they have skyvpn app blocked
Hi there, /u/Frosty_Gas_2070, thanks for your submission!
You used a flair that corresponds with rule 3 of the subreddit: refer technical issues to support first.
Some support agents are keeping an eye on here, but we still recommend using official channel for efficient troubleshooting - Surfshark customer support first. You’ll find both e-mail and live chat there. It’s 24/7, so enjoy!
If the question persist, make sure to include as much information as possible. Thank you!

Surfshark has a 30 days money back policy, so just have a try
Surfshark does not work on my school WiFi. No other decent paid VPN such as Proton or ExpressVPN does. For some reason the only ones that work are the crappy free ones. I am currently using X-VPN
As a IT administrator, I would like to tell you most of school guest wifi networks are heavily controlled by firewalls where we personally implement DPI (Deep Packet Inspection) on enterprise networks. So, it is not easy to bypass those enterprise firewalls. Only specialized servers with advanced configurations can unblock it but still it depends how strong is the enterprise firewall and how it was configured.
So, in order to bypass the firewall data must look like it is a normal data. I would say if Surfshark has some dedicated servers which has ability to do this that might help you but it is hard and again IT administrator team still can chase your device easily if it is against the school policy.
Hope this helps.
Do you have a spare computer sitting around somewhere? If so, set up a VPN tunnel into your home internet. No need to pay a VPN provider.
And if you do this keep it to yourself. If anyone does any illegal shit on your home VPN you/your parents are responsible for it. Plus if people start finding out mfs will get jealous and tattletale. Then you could get in trouble and/or your school may block your IP then you have to change it.
Hello! The extension part is not blocked, so 9/10 times people are able to use the extension in school networks. If you want your whole device to be protected, then we can offer you a manual connection with alternative ports.Sadly, we do not have any additional deals for a monthly subscription.
In the app it says there’s only a free trial for the 24 month, $150 subscription, and my dad won’t let me try that. Do you know if there’s a way to get the $3 per month deal on a monthly subscription?
Have you tried several different servers? Make sure that Camouflage Mode is turned on (the default for the OpenVPN protocol,) which pushes VPN traffic over ports designated for more mundane things, like web browsing.
It’s actually not that difficult to go around a firewall as a student taking a Network Operations course. Although you can usually manually connect to the Vpn through the TCP protocol and, in most cases, this will get around the firewall, I prefer VPN clients like Surfshark since it offers a camouflage mode that hides the traffic from DPI. It is legal to circumvent the school’s firewall and use VPNs. I just refuse to sign any papers the school has given to people regarding their policies and always use my own devices. Additionally, because of the pure number of servers and server obfuscation, it is very difficult to block every possible connection on school networks. I can quickly determine what ports are open and exactly what is being blocked using simple tools like NMAP and Wireshark, which can allow me to solve the problem. For instance, I could use NMAP to find out that all ports apart from 8080, 80, and 443 are not open, letting me know that I may use OpenVPN TCP or OpenVPN UDP (the alternative port is 8080) since Surfshark should automatically route to a different port, which is 443 and UDP alternative port is 8080 making it function and Surfshark Camofludge mode bypassing any type of Deep Packet Inspection. Since it is ultimately their network, but this is also my computer, I have the right to mask my data and prevent the school from seeing it, just as they have the right to block me and attempt to track my traffic. I find SurfShark to be terrible at this but other big VPNs do a much better job
Get it on the website, not the app. I paid 95 euro for Surfshark One for 2 years.
They still have a moneyback guarantee for the first month. I got 27 month for 59.9n=em3*qd1
Again, hard to make a fool of 10,000$ firewall device with advanced rules.
Basically, no organization wants anyone should misuse their network for bad activities and usually there is always a Terms and conditions on guest wifi network before you get connected and it is user responsibility to read it before connecting.
Also, then you can stop using their network and turn on your data and hit connect on Surfshark app if you are such a privacy person.
FYI, normal organizations do not have that much time to track every person activity it is just logs which mostly all organizations keep if any illegal acitivity happen using their Public IP address to find out the real culprit by matching time of incident and other network details.
Wow that was expensive… You can get surfshark for 0-20 per 2 years all the time.
I’m under no legal obligation to not protect my traffic even if it’s there network, just as much as they can try to block me. I’m under no (legal) agreement by pressing yes to there terms of service since I’m under 18.
You have no other option, In order to use the school/organization network you must have to press YES otherwise you can not access their network basically authentication process is not completed and you will be refused.
They run all the time deals that makes. 2 years as cheap as 45-70€ per 2 years like literarily allways 24/7 and 365 days per year ( that’s why you shouldn’t get pressured by deals)
Then take a cashback deal there’s literarily allways atleast 50-70% cashback on websites for surfshark but very often like every few weeks guaranteed 100% cashback or 90%
Aka you then pay 0-20 for 2 years.
I am on a 4 year plan that cost me somewhere around $90. 3-year plans are a limited discounted rate they sometimes toss. Then, you can get the 4th year even cheaper.
ye 4 years for 90 seems fine but could been like 0-40$
there were atleast 6x 100% cashbacks and a few times 70%+ cashbacks on german deal sites USA sites and more also run these.
Without the discounted rate, it would have been much higher. At the time, that was the 2nd cheapest paid VPN I could find. The other was from a less recommended VPN. It didn’t even offer a Wireguard nor killswitch, so it was pretty much out of the question even if it was more like $1 per month.
