I use a VPN 24/7, as I’m living overseas for a year. My VPN said it has a recommended update. Because I rely on the VPN, I cant do anything if the VPN goes out. When I do the update, will the VPN temporarily stop working?
I think you can survive being down for the duration of a VPN update lol
Sure, the VPN stops working during installation, but I don´t understand the problem, nothing works 24/7 for a year at some point the server will go down for maintenance or whatever, it is not very likely that you are going to have a VPN working 24/7 for a year with zero downtime.
Depending on where you are, power and therefore local internet outages may be a much bigger problem. 24/7 internet service is not a universal thing.
How about you download the newest Installer and then simply use this to “update” ? fool proof.
Two possible scenarios:
- You update the app because you wanted to, not because the VPN company told you to.
- You update it only if the app version your using is very old, so you had to.
You choose.
Yup. OP should pick a time when it is not going to be used like right before bed and allow the update then.
Im in china, so the internet would practically go out. Will the update still go through?
Bro, im in China, if the VPN stops working for even a second, it cant update and I cant access the internet.
Update…. Don’t update…We can’t make up your mind for you. We have no way of knowing if your internet will go out if it’s as bad as you make it out. You had to be able to connect in the first place, much less maintain a connection to said VPN. Take the chance otherwise unless it’s some god update or security don’t bother
Unless you have an ancient computer working on firewood, updating VPN software takes like 10-30 seconds on average. If you can’t handle being without the Internet for 30 seconds once a month or something like that, you have a lot more serious problem than VPN update.
Edit: If you mean “can it update if stops working” - yes, VPN will first download installation file and then run it offline to update itself. If you want to be 102% sure, download update manually from VPN website and run it offline.
You can download your VPN service software on their official website and then update the existing soft on your device offline. Not necessarily to do updates online.
I connected in the first place because I had it on when I was in the US, and when I moved, I never turned my VPN off
