I noticed the VPN icon looks different than before. It now looks like Google One VPN but when I go to Google One it’s disabled there.
Can find anything online.
It would make sense if Google merged Fi and One VPN but they still operate independently. Maybe they just updated the icon to be same?
Yep changed for me. Recently disabled the VPN yesterday (had the G logo above the VPN icon). Just enabled it right now and it only shows the key.
Hopefully this improves things. I always find it randomly disconnecting.
This post made me check and I’m noticing the same, the icon did change. Also my VPN was disabled which I don’t think I did but I’m not 100% sure about that (I do notice on occasion traffic seems “hung” in some app which is often fixed by temporarily turning off VPN, so it could’ve been me and I forgot).
Enabling it gave a “are you sure, this can monitor all your traffic” type confirmation which I don’t remember from the past either (but again not 100% sure… old leaky brain lol).
I just checked and my VPN icon had the little G on top of the key. I looked at the settings for VPN (in settings → Network) and it said something like “Google Fi VPN (legacy)”. So I disabled and “forgot” the VPN, then went to the Fi app and enabled security again. Now my icon looks like above and the “legacy” is gone.
I’ve had those options for quite a while. I think they may have just rearranged the app layout a bit.
My icon is the same. Did you change your icon settings? I bet you have Themed Icons turned on.
Yeah, me too. Every time I check on the fi vpn it’s turned itself off again
Yep I got the same prompt after I disabled it and re-enabled it. That never showed up before . It pops up one time only.
I did this and I still get the legacy
I was referring to the VPN icon. Google Fi VPN icon that shows up as a key at the very top looked a bit different. Now it’s same as Google One
I haven’t changed any themes. Up until few days ago the icon was a key with a G.
My Fi app version is V89-allabi-universal (544132361)

Same for me other than I am on the P7pro. I just looked in the Wallpaper & style section and turned my Themed Icons on and all the other icons change to that same style you are seeing for Fi VPN but mine did not change. Very strange!!
My wife and I have been using the Fi VPN for over a year and we’ve never had the key icon with a G. It’s always been just a key.
I have the same version but I still have the G logo.
My G went away yesterday so it appears they are doing a slow rollout of taking the G away. Now I don’t know if they are making the VPNs the same.
