Beryl AX VPN to home Ubiquiti UniFi router

I have a UniFi router at home and occasionally use a client on my MacBook to VPN to my home network and that works fine.

I recently got the Beryl AX travel router so that I could have my whole family and their devices VPN back through just one VPN rather than needing to set up separate VPN connections on every device.

I’ve tried both OpenVPN and WireGuard VPNs but haven’t been able to get any of them working. Has anyone had luck with that sort of configuration before? I’m new to the GL iNet products, but not new to routing and VPNs in general.

Can you be more specific? You are not giving anyone much to go off of, what have you tried, maybe some screenshots?

Yes, I am using slate ax exactly for this purpose. When I am away from Home I connect all my devices to slate ax router and slate ax router is connected to internet either thru wan Ethernet cable or thru Wifi . I use wireguard VPN to connect to my home network.it’s the fastest VPN protocol.
This is much better than running wireguard client on each individual device. When I was running wireguard client on my windows machine it was not very stable, I had to frequently turn off and on. But not any more wireguard client in slate ax is very stable.

Coming back to your trouble ,how did you set up the Wireguard server in your Home network. Mine is running in a Linux VM.
Most likely your issue is on the server side as GLiNet routers clients are straight forward.

You need to setup a VPN Server at home, and create a VPN profile for the Beryl as a VPN client.

Here are some screenshots. The first is the configuration of the Wireguard VPN server on my home UniFi router:

the following two are the Wireguard config on the GL iNet router. It’s not clear to me what some of those settings should be, there isn’t much explanation for what those should be

It wont’ let me post multiple pictures in one post so I will do two more posts with the individual pages

Here is the first set of settings on the GL iNet, what is the IP address to put into the IP Address?

And the last shot is the rest of the configuration on the GL iNet settings.

I put in the IP address of my home router in the endpoint section yet it’s still showing it in red and not accepting it.

And what is the allowed IPs supposed to be?

in addition to this comment, Crosstalk Solutions has a perfect video for this:

when u have downloaded the client config, upload it with the GL.Inet app for example.

The 192.168.3.2 should be the IP you put in gl.inet and it should be 192.168.3.2/24 so it has access to everything on the wireguard network.

Within unifi you should’ve created this already and it would be the assigned IP you created for this device.

If you want everything to run through VPN it should be 0.0.0.0/0, ::/0

As for the endpoint I would use a DDNS service, and it should be your WAN IP as your endpoint to test, but still use a DDNS service, your WAN IP usually changes unless you pay for a static IP.
