I’ve been wanting to connect to my Purdue network drive from my Android phone, but I haven’t found a way to do it yet. So does anyone know how to map it to an Android phone? Note: I’ve already got the Purdue VPN set up successfully on my phone.
You can access your network drive via FTP. It works even off campus and indeed I just did it on my android phone using a 4G connection. Just download an FTP client (I used AndFTP) from the Google Play store.
The server is ftp.ics.purdue.edu
SFTP
Port 22
The remote directory can be found by going here - It’s on the left hand side under the heading “Your home directory location:”
And of course use your Purdue Career account and password
If I end up having any spare time at all this summer, I might be able to whip up something pretty quickly that would be customized for Purdue. The main problem is that you can’t access your network drive off campus unless you vpn in, so I would have to create some kind of VPN connection inside of my app. There is a class in Android’s API that lets you configure VPN connections and make it so that only your app’s traffic goes through it, but it’s not available on devices that don’t have ice cream sandwich.
I really don’t know but you might be able to check Gold Answers or call ITaP: 765-494-4000. I think their help desk is in Stew G65 but I couldn’t tell you their hours.
You have to download an app called “XpressConnect”. You use that to setup PAL. I don’t know how I found out about this, but if you root around enough on the ITAP site you’ll find more details
I normally use connectbot and mail files from expert.ics.purdue.edu to myself, but I’m pretty sure there are CIFS clients on android.
I like the idea of an app where you’d be able to VPN into the H drive. I’ve been working on a system for my MIS class and I’d like to be able to edit the php scripts (in my www folder for web access) from my mobile device. I guess one of the questions I have is: do you need to use the VPN API for the app? I know Android has a built in VPN configuration tool and I have successfully set that up on my phone. Or does that configuration not apply to all of the traffic from the phone?
That is incorrect. Like another person said, there is FTP as a possibility, and samba shares work for on or off campus.
Oh I can already connect to the PAL network(s). I’m talking about connecting to my H drive (\rosetta.ics.purdue.edu\username). On a side note Xpress Connect is nice (when it works).
Which domain can you access samba shares from?
Under “If you are off-campus”
