I don’t think they have made it available in our country
Connection is 1gbps down 50mbps up. Cable. Regularly see 900mbps down 55mbps up.
Without the VPN:
211mbps down
51mbps up
With VPN:
110mbps down
37mbps up
Much better than in the past and I honestly wouldn’t notice that difference. I haven’t checked latency.
I did when it worked at home. For some weird reason it only worked while I was at work. I have checked my phone settings, DNS, router, Mesh wifi settings, and whatever I could think of. It still doesn’t work.
good for supported countries only… others than that, adguard or cloudflare
What countries can you connect to with the VPN? Is Turkey available?
I love it while I’m in France, but the moment I head back to Singapore…bye bye vpn :c
Why are they getting rid of VPN on Google 1 when they’re still offering it on pixel 7 / 8?
Not salty or anything, because it was shit in Australia, my telco (Telstra) did everything they could to block it.
Isn’t Google One VPN going away in a few days ?
lol nah i use proton
Free VPN = You aren’t the customer, you are the product
Starting June 20, 2024, VPN by Google One will be discontinued.
I purchased a LTD that I think is better.
My work Wi-Fi blocks vpn connections
ATT 4.5mbps
ATT - Mullvad VPN 105mbps
Damn that’s a big change
Tmobile. They try. They bury a setting in your account that’s enabled by default to limit video streaming to 1080p, which limits bandwidth to fast and some other sites. I’m paying for unlimited unthrottled 5G, so I turned that shit off immediately.
I used ~1.5TB last month, and I’m on track to double that this month.
I didnt even know my phone had a free VPN lol I just turned it on.
Is this something you should always have on just for the security? Or does it mow through your battery and make your phone do other weird things?
They’re killing the VPN for Google One subscribers, but keeping it for Pixel 7 and newer phones as a built in Pixel VPN.
Where do you find this settings?
yea wtf it isn’t available in australia either?
Yeah, being able to use Google’s VPN while traveling without having to pay for a third party service was one of the reasons I was most interested in the VPN in the first place. Turns out it doesn’t work in any of the countries I care about having a VPN anyway. I’m not really surprised they’re killing this half-assed service.
Google. It’s Google One VPN.
Do I trust Google? They did open source it and get outside security reviews done, but still… not really. Do I mind if they want to watch me download a bunch of torrents? Again, not really. Not for a free VPN built into the phone with a kill switch. It’s more than enough to keep you from getting angry ISP letters, just not good enough to run your own darknet market through.
