Hey guys, just after some advice
I’m currently in the UK so I’m having to try and use a VPN to access F1 TV Pro, I know it’s pointless right now, but I’m just trying to see if I can sub using a VPN.
Atm I’m trying setupVPN [Free “premium” trial] and I keep getting the message of “Unfortunately you are not eligible for this plan because of your previous purchase history or you are in a territory that is not valid for this selection. Please choose another plan” trying from both the US and Germany.
I’ve tried from both locations via VPN and also the “where will you be watching from” question on the subscription page, and the same message comes up for ALL of the options (monthly/annually for both F1 TV and Pro)
Any advice or suggestions? This is my first time using a VPN so I don’t know if I’m just messing up or not, thanks!
don’t sub on the website - you need to do it on the app, because then the payments go via apple/google and f1 won’t see what location they came from, so use your vpn on the app, and sub that way. Make sure your account location is set to usa/germany/whatever location supports tv pro
gimme a shout if this doesn’t work - i’m happy to help if there’s any problems with this
IIRC it depends where your credit card is from. So if you have a german credit card it should work. (Would appreciate it if anyone could confirm this)
I’m in the UK and was able to sign up/pay through my Apple ID with no further checks. Missed out on the pre season discounted price but everything else was fine there.
However, I do need to use a VPN to access and ‘pro’ content. I route through PIA’s New York server and that has worked well for me so far.
Shitty free VPNs might not work even with the payment via Google/Apple appstore trick way because they’re shitty free VPNs, that often use only virtual locations or crappy proxies (besides also being very slow, and snooping user data).
Make sure to clear your browser history, clear browser cache. If you don’t do these the VPN won’t work as your browser will just automatically redirect you to geo specific mirrors. And even try resetting the OS timezone to the one you’re connecting to, someone’s this can help.
Will add not all VPN are created equal. Many content providers have a black list of IP addresses which they are moderately certain are servers working as VPN. I guess through the traffic amount? It’s bit of a cat and mouse game. There are better providers and even dedicated IP for extra cost. I had similar issues with BBC, Sky etc. I found Ivacy VPN worked better than others i tried but it’s still no guarantee. They do however work hard to spawn new servers if an IP gets flagged. Ultimately even if you get app setup don’t expect it to be stable. You may have move around VPN services. Ivacy also supports iOS and android by the way and they do long term sub discounts
Running into this same issue now. Is VPN required to watch everytime? Because that wouldn’t work for me, as my dad wants to use the account too, and he knows nothing about VPNs and such
I’ll give that a go tomorrow, quick question, how would I go about using a VPN on mobile? I’ve never done it before, complete noob to this =P
Also on Android, and using Firefox, for context.
I did wonder if that was the case, but I didn’t want to go into anything taht cost more for one service.
Use the play store to download a VPN app
So I haven’t even entered any card details yet, I made a fresh account and I was getting that info, so I don’t think it’s card related. =/
Most content providers very easily detect the free vpns now. They only very useful for just masking yourself rather than unlocking geolocked content.
Lots of more expensive VPNs offer free trial and then if you commit to a year for instance the price dramatically drops. Of course use the trial to give confidence it works
I’ve give it a look, thank you.
That’s very interesting… I’ll look into that
You really need to make sure your account location is set to a pro location btw
I had that done too, it was set to USA.
