If I use a VPN on mobile (Samsung/Android) and I just do some casual browsing without inputting any personal details (name, address, etc), how private is this session going to be, on average? What sort of information can websites use to track me, other than the IP (which will just point to the VPN)??
Do mobile browsers leak personal data related to my phone number or location, for example, even through a VPN? Or any other major personal info?
I am just trying to implement good privacy practices on my mobile phone, and I just got a 1 year of ExpressVPN, so I would like to learn how to make the most of it, and not make it useless.
Thanks
Mobile VPN apps are prone to lock up or close and you may be temporarily exposed. Apps will also use Wifi SSID’s to pinpoint your location with pretty scary accuracy. Bluetooth beacons are another possibility. Depending on Android version apps may also be able to track your IMIE. Keep in mind also that if Android you are pinging google servers constantly. If you signed up with a gmail account associated with other real world activity then it is all tied together.
The simple answer is even if you use a VPN, browser can leak your information through WebRTC leak. However, if VPN is well featured to prevent these leaks, then no problem. You are safe.
Other problem is DNS leak which cases your internet traffic go outsite the encrypted tunnel. Either choose a trusted DNS server or choose a VPN which has private DNS server installed on it.
What vpn would you recommend for mobile users?
