ZCC + Hyper-V external virtual switch + fresh install Windows 11 Issue

Hi All,

I just wanted to share my experience with all of you about this issue as it might be important information if you need to prepare the new laptop for the end user that might need to use Hyper-V on their laptop.

The symptom will occur when you create an external virtual switch and restart the laptop then within about 10 min the laptop will lose its network connection and be unable to contact your DHCP server (Router, mobile hotspot or whatever). It will also remain unable to reach anything even if you use the static IP address.

Also, when you restart the laptop it will take a pretty long time to restart and the laptop will end up facing DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE BSOD error.

External virtual switch unable to contact DHCP server

After about 10 min after restart the laptop lost the network connection, using static IP doesn’t help. The Wi-Fi connection will remain connected though.

I have an open ticket with Zscaler engineer and I’ve shared the workaround that I’ve found with them last Friday, but they still have not reached back to me yet.

The only workaround I’ve found right now is to install Windows 10, Turn on Hyper-V, create external virtual switch and then perform in-place upgrade to Windows 11, install the ZCC and it will work fine.

I’ve been encountering a similar issue on my work laptop. I’m on windows 11, using Hyper-V, and have Zscaler installed. The only difference that I can see with my setup is that I’ve had Hyper-V installed before I upgraded to Windows 11. So it seems like the workaround isn’t an option for me. Have you heard anything from Zscaler since you’ve raised that ticket?

Zscaler unable to find a solution for me. but my reason to have external virtual switch is to avoid the VPN being mess up by Zscaler so Zscaler support just told me to whitelist the VPN on Zscaler console.

is that the same case for you or you have other reason to use external virtual switch?
