YouTube TV Detecting WireGuard?

Has anyone else run into issues with YouTube TV detecting WireGuard. I’ve used WireGuard to VPN from Europe to my parents house in the U.S. to watch TV for the past 6 months without issue, but sometime over the past 4-5 days it hasn’t worked. I’m using WeeJeWel/wg-easy.

When I use proton VPN or nordvpn, I can watch youtube TV no problem. I find it hard to believe youtube would have tagged my parent’s IP, but maybe that’s possible?

I appreciate your insights.

What are you using for DNS over your WG connection? If you are routing 0.0.0.0/0 to your parents house, find out the DNS server, be it their gateway device, or ISP’s DNS servers and make sure you are using those.

We’re all using cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1, and a DNS leak test shows no leaks. I’m a hobbyist more than a networking expert, so please let me know if I’m missing something.

What are you using for watching YouTube TV? Is location tracking on? Like when a website asks four permission to use your location, it could be using geo reference.

I’ve tried on an Android phone, laptop, and Nvidia shield. On each device, my wireguard VPN no longer works for YTTV, but nordvpn does.

To be clear, the wireguard VPN connects and my traffic (according to other websites) appears to be coming from the US. I’ve even confirmed I can get to other geoblocked sites using the wireguard VPN.

I’m a little flummoxed because usually I break things by making changes, and I haven’t touched this setup in a while.

So, within your WG configuration, you are setting 1.1.1.1 via DNS =? Beyond that, since you indicate that other sites say you are coming from your parents address, I too am at a loss. I’d assume you’ve done a traceroute/mtr to make sure you are traversing the tunnel?

Honest to god, it just started working again. I have no idea how or why; I didn’t change anything.

Thanks for helping me troubleshoot!
