Would you like to see an entirely new type of transformation sequence in the next Macross anime's VFs?

lol, I meant they were the last two entries that I hadn’t mentioned yet. I wasn’t listing things in release order, I was going by what I thought a Robotech fan would be most interested in

Definitely give Macross Plus another shot, it’s a great series. I personally prefer the movie version but the OVA is just as good.

As for my favorite series, I have a hard time choosing, but depending on the day I go back and forth between the original and Macross Frontier. I do, however, generally say that my favorite piece of Macross media is the OVA sequel to Macross 7, Macross Dynamite 7, but since it’s not really a stand alone series I tend to stick with the OG or Frontier.

IMO, SDF Macross, Do You Remember Love, Plus, Dynamite 7, and Frontier are all near perfect, must watch works.

Older Valkyries use mechanical locking mechanisms and moving parts. From the VF-25 onward, they use magnetic rails and electromagnetic locks. The parts actually separate from each other and reconnect in a different location. That is why they have the electrical spark animation when they transform. They do not look like they are integrated because in Lore, they are not.

Yes, beautiful designs.

I like the 31’s battleoid. It still has tiny waist, but the nose cone hides it pretty well. I’m not a fan of the wings in jet mode though. It feels like the mass produced grunt plane to the YF-19’s hero plane. And the gun pod being made a part of the back mounted weapon pod also feels weird to me. Overall I think the YF-29 executes the overall look the 31 was going for better, but the core of the 31’s battleoid does look better.

I’m glad to hear that even after all this time, even in the true Macross series, SDF Macross stands the test of time. While I’ve begun seeing the R series isn’t well liked around here, I did buy the blu ray version of the Macross series and I was surprised how well it all holds up.

I have discovered while we have been conversing that Disney Plus apparently has a ton of Macross material on it. I’m not a big fan of Disney these days and haven’t subbed to them in quite awhile, but I might have to sign up with them soon and start diving into the series.

While I’m not sure it counts as pirating, as it hasn’t been ripped off YouTube for copyright strike, I have found Do You Remember Love on YouTube in decent quality and plan to rewatch it soon as an adult and not a bright eyed kid haha.

I absolutely will give Macross Plus another chance. I barely remember it honestly, so it will be seen with mostly fresh eyes.

That is interesting to know! I did not realize they were not perfect transformations. Thanks for the info :)! It still stands to me that even with the lore backup, I still find the designs much less appealing than the older models. But again just personal preference  But I am always happy to learn something new about my favorite series  thanks!

The VF-1’s waist is also as tiny if you think about it. It’s just that the lower chest and hips are closer together compared to modern VFs. The gunpod is also removable on the VF-31. That’s just where it’s usually stored for combat in fighter and battroid mode.

I’ve been watching anime for over 20 years now but I didn’t watch Macross until around 5 years ago, and I was still blown away by it. Definitely a classic, and I’ve been addicted to the franchise since.

I’m not big on Disney either, personally I just plan to buy each entry’s physical release as they become available, but I think it’s good that the franchise will have a wider reach. Like em or not, a lot of people have Disney Plus so it’s pretty convenient to have it on there. Just keep in mind that Macross hasn’t been released on there yet. The original announcement was that they would be added by the end of the year so they should be added soon.

Its cool. I am not trying to change your opinion or anything. I am just saying that they look that for an in-universe reason. Personally, I like the older units more, myself.

100%, but I feel like the VF-1 hides it better. The gun pod coming off the back mount actually makes it worse to me. It just makes me ask “why even bother.” I’d rather the back weapon was a dedicated weapon. Having the gun pod as a detachable part of it just feels like a half measure that came from a design disagreement. I do love the small guns on the arms though. I’d love to see a VF-29 that took the YF-29’s design, and moved the battleoid to resemble the YF-30 just a tiny bit more.

Oh wow, so Macross is pretty new for you all things considered. That’s an even better endorsement of how well it’s stood the test of time. I discovered it through the beauty of Toonami back in the early to mid 90s. It was my introduction to anime and cartoons as a much more serious medium than I’d been used to in my young life.

Of course as a kid, the transforming jets and SDF-1(still one of my favorite ships of all time) and awesome action drew me in, but I’ll never forget Roy’s death in the show. Growing up in the 80s, I saw some pretty dark stuff. Land Before Time was pretty brutal for a kid to watch looking back on it, but something about Roy dying really impacted me.

It’s really awesome that you discovered it. I suppose the fact the Macross series has continued to have new stories and series come out for it over the decades helps with potential new fans unlike the American version that has been dormant for quite some time.

Not a problem! I am just glad to be able to get more information  I love the lore, and it’s nice to have gaps filled! Thanks for that

Oh yeah, that’s a fair point. They designed the back weapons pod to be interchangeable depending on mission specifications, so it does make sense to not feel dedicated.

I know more Lore Stuff than anyone rightfully should. I ought to get a life. But that requires Efforts and I don’t never like no Efforts.

Which is fair. And the arm guns do make the gun pod a little redundant as a hand held weapon. It’s just my personal preference though. Makes me curious what direction they’ll go for the next series.

Nothing wrong with having a passion! If you enjoy it then it becomes a part of your life! Nothing to get at all  and it helps that you have good taste ha ha!

Good taste? Leeet’s not get ahead of ourselves here.
