Would you like to see an entirely new type of transformation sequence in the next Macross anime's VFs?

It’s probable that the next generation of VF’s transformation sequence we see in the new macross anime is going to be somewhat similar to the VF-25/31. Also it’s definitely going to keep the “legs become the thrusters” and “cockpit folds into chest” those are too iconic and beautiful to get rid of. Either way, Kawamori’s going to deliver something amazing.

Eh, the current form factor works really well. It’d be hard to change it too much, especially if you want to keep gerwalk. I mean there are things that they could do, but I have a hard time imagining them switching it up too much without making it too complicated.

Ha, most of my experience with Macross is with Robotech, so I was almost completely ignorant of any of these outside of the Macross VF1-J. I’m a huge fan of the F-14 look and so I honestly really appreciate the highly updated VF-25F with it’s variable sweep wings. This has been an eye opening and cool post.

Macross is one of my favorite anime’s of all time. Since I am in the Macross sub (I just joined after falling back into Robotechs Macross Saga) I’d like to ask if the following series are worth pursuing? How do the followup series measure up to the iconic original series and the are the characters as compelling? Are they worth pursuing and if anyone is in the US, what’s the best way to watch?

I would personally love to see at return to the older styles, more boxy and angular, like the Macross 2 designs (I really liked the VF-2SS and the VF-2J)
I was not as fond of the newer frontier and delta styles. Really disliked the back mounted lasers. They just seemed “dropped on” rather than integrated like the VF-2SS. Perhaps more YF-19 than YF-21 even.

I would but they would have to be really creative to pull that off

So I think in so far of jet into robot, the origami fold style that came from the yf-19 to vf-31 is pretty much perfection. It gives great torso-shaped bulk without it just being a robot with a kite strapped to their back that you see in 90% of of Gundam or transformers.

Be hard to as they perfected the process over the decades. They could always do a combine sequence. If they do it i might shrug and have a pain look on my face. As I did today watching the macross plus ep 4 bandai dub, lol.

They did already In the YF-21 and the VF-22 having the engines on a backpack thing and the Draken 3

I can’t say for sure their process, but my sense is the design starts with the fighter mode first. And it should. The other modes come from that. That’s why I personally like the fighter mode the best. There’s only been a couple battroid modes that I really like. The VF-1’s, YF-19, and VF-25 Standard. Main reason for these is I feel they integrate their fighters parts the best into battroid, while some others will have large back kibbles.

An entirely different type of transformation would call for a very different looking veritech, and that would probably be out of spec for Macross lore. But I’m open to new things if done in a clever and cool way.

The 25 is still the sexiest valk imo. I doubt anything will ever top it.

Honestly I think they are all worth watching if you like the Macross universe.

I personally was not a fan of Macross 7 but I don’t regret watching it, I actually liked Dynamite 7 a bit better although the 7 story arc did a lot to expand the universe.

Delta being somewhat controversial you could skip the series and just watch the two delta movies since they retell the series.

Frontier is so good you should watch both the series and movies as there are some differences.

Same with Plus. Watch both the ova’s and the movie because there are enough differences to appreciate both.

I’d like to see new Destroid designs at some point, but I’m pretty sure it’s probably not likely since they’ve barely shown up by the time of Frontier and Delra

something like the vf-22 would be neat, the main nozzle is relegated to the backpack thruster instead, make it single engine or developed from the f-16 frame

I just want something that’ll be able to be made into a solid toy that locks together in all 3 modes without feeling like it’ll shake itself apart if touched wrong lol

i always thought the VF-4 couldn’t transform

Probably there will be a new one. The would avoid merch which transforms the same way unless they are based from the same prototype like 25/27/29 in frontier or 30/31.

No thanks, just the same, to be honest with you, I’m tired of the very slim spiky robots.

Honestly, it would be fine if they didn’t do an entirely new type of transformation sequence. That said though, the next series is gonna be made by Sunrise, so I hope that they don’t make a dumbed-down transformation sequence (like what transformable gundam mecha usually have) just so they can sell model kits.

Tank? Or maybe hovercraft

Am I the only person who doesn’t like the YF-4’s torso and head, and thinks the Robotech version has the superior battleoid mode?
