Windows 10 April Update - Breaks WiFi connection to VPN

I am using OpenVPN with an ASUS Router.

Last week, the Windows update has broken the functionality of the VPN, but ONLY when WiFi is used by the client device.

Hardwire a laptop or desktop and use the OpenVPN GUI Client and it works perfectly fine.

Disconnect the wire, use the WiFi and when it connects to the OpenVPN server, data moves back and forth, but local and remote resources are completely unavailable and all other network traffic falls into an abyss.

Tracert shows same number of jumps to sites, but with severely degraded/missing responses. ANY network ping test will show ms responses from 10 to 2000, but will lose between 75 and 90% of every packet.

This ONLY happens on WiFi, when using the client, it happens regardless of remote site and happens regardless of hardware in the PC or Laptop.

Has anyone else been experiencing anything similar to this?

Windows 10/11 updates broke L2TP VPNs to some servers (Ubiquiti UniFi routers) back in February. Had to remove the patch and wait for a fix from Microsoft.

That’s what it is looking like, again, but only for a WiFi connections, at least with OpenVPN.

I doubted it too.

All I know is that the day before this problem sprang up, was immediately after the April Windows Update. The VPN is used daily, with a WiFi connection. After that update? Only hardwired connections are working.

It’s the simplest explanation.
