None of the extensions have a Killswitch, because “VPN EXTENSIONS” are only “Proxies” and ONLY cover the browser. they Literarily cant Killswitch the browser.
quite misleading that the entire VPN industry calls their extensions VPN.
Please help me understand the implications of this for my specific use case, which is:
- I have the Surfshark extension installed in Microsoft Edge running on Windows PC.
- On the PC I use Microsoft’s “Your Phone” app to send and receive text messages through my Android phone. I also have Surfshark installed on my phone, and the kill switch is enabled there.
- I would like for those messages to always be encrypted while in transit. Am I ensured that if messages are sent, they are encrypted?
Yes, 100%. A false sense of security. I believe some VPN browser extensions can trigger and control the main VPN client, where you can choose/enable full protection and kill switch.

theres none that i know of , also browser extensions are isolated to their own exe and have very limited possibilites.
This is from Express-VPN: “the web browser extension works differently than others on this list because it is not a standalone product. Instead, you must have the native VPN app already installed on your system. The browser extension remotely controls the native VPN app. The benefit is that your device is always fully protected, even if you close out of the web browser”.
Remembered it almost, lol.
Ye but this isn’t either a proxy nor vpn app.
It’s a companion app.
Yes, I figured that out, but thanks.
