Kaspersky and bitdefender are the best, if you got plenty of ram then bitdefender is the way to go, but if you are tight on performance then kaspersky is the way to go
Is he actually saying they are not selling data anymore or is that what he wants us to think?
Why were you downvoted to a -7 score? Just down votes without any replies. Odd.
No, that’s utter crap, that’s why they only stopped data collection when they were threatened with court action, and there’s still a mass lawsuit against them which they will lose. They were NOT telling people about the extent of the data collection and they certainly NEVER mentioned that they were selling it to third parties.
Good job avast employee for defending our terrible business practices online
u said bitdefender twice on purpose or?
This sub if full of stupid kids.
They openly stated they were sharing it with 3rd parties and you had to explicitly allow it. If you haven’t, nothing got collected. But if only people would read. You don’t even have to read whole EULA or whatever. If I see data sharing option of any sort I just decline it by default. The only one I don’t with antiviruses is participation in virus detection cloud which is actually beneficial and doesn’t really reveal anything seriously private.
Also, what 3rd parties ultimately do is literally irrelevant. They are 3rd parties. If you don’t want them to have access, then simply don’t allow any sharing. Why they just sacked it can have hundred reasons. It can be admission of guilt for some or attempt to regain trust. Whatever you want to think.
Lol, I’m not Avast employee. I have no affiliation with them other than being their long time user with some insider info because over the years I got in touch with their devs quite a lot.
Terrible business practices only if you’re too daft to untick 3 checkboxes in Privacy settings.
Sorry I wanted to say Kaspersky in the second one
Is this what they mean by “cancel culture?”
That’s crap, they only served the pop up asking for users ok AFTER the motherboard report, it’s public ally available information, and the CEO public ally apologised.

After they were caught. Then they backtracked. And hemmed and hawed.
They suck.
oh i see, i thought you wanted to really emphasize bitdefender was the best one hahahah

Correct, getting caught then saying “well gee shucks um yeah” is not the same as being honest and transparent.
That popup has been there for ages and has went through iterations of how it was worded. But it has been there before anyone reported on it. I remember it as far as 2015. It was a bit different and was on by default with directions on how to disable it after install if you didn’t agree with it. Some time later the DECLINE option was during install. Also Ondrej became CEO after this was already going on and he didn’t have say in initial decisions of it as he as CTO back then iirc. He did have it now and he sacked it all.
Are you stupid or something? I literally posted install screen from 2015 that states sharing with 3rd party. So, how were they “caught” in 2019/2020 then? Time travel?
The pop up before the motherboard report didn’t state what they were doing, the CEO said after the motherboard report that he would add it in, but it wasn’t there previous to that.
