Let me rephrase your question, in recent times why are we testing every day and in many instances twice per day (RAT test first, then if negative PCR test)?

because we have to get zero cases into the official record (hint: why twice per day and if the RAT test is negative …?)

because the powers that be had to have enough time to organize the contracts with appropriate special licensing conditions and fees attached with the testing companies (hint: in recent times) and don’t forget special licensing for food delivery etc - all that license fee stuff is hard work and takes time to ensure maximum revenues.
Don’t worry once the special licensing conditions are in place they will migrate to an enforced vaccine regime and a “living with covid” policy" which looks like it will require testing and regular boosters (aka licence fees upon licence fees)

In principle, the sooner you detect a positive, the sooner you can isolate them and stop them infecting others. See days 1 to 5 on the attached graphic from The Lancet (sorry about horrible link format)

I will herewith stop complaining that I woke up at 7 for my test, which I end up not going at the end. They didn’t bother coming to the door either.
The fucking irony is that the daily testing is probably one of the biggest causes for the continual spread. Who would’ve thought in a time of quarantine, continuously forcing people together in to large groups might be a bad idea huh?
