Why are all the posts on this subreddit negative?

Does Express suck? As someone not well versed on VPN’s is it actually a good one to have?

Does it disappoint from a service point of view, is it actually good to hide yourself?

Most product based subs attract negative reviews because people have something to get off their chest or ask for help about. It’s just how it is.

It’s fine for me, does everything I want and I trust them with privacy more than others, so I stay. A couple of new features might be nice, like dedicated IP, but not a deal breaker for me.

I mean, you can’t make everyone on the internet happy.

I’ve used express, and my two gripes are this:

  • It gets blocked by Netflix a lot, and since the number of servers are far less than team blue, this means you’ll run into blocks more often.

  • If you’re someone who uses yt-dlp to download from services like 10Play with aria2, your connection will not be stable.

Other than that, it’s an okay VPN

I’ve used ExpressVPN for over 5 years but I stopped using them 2 years ago after they were bought by Kape Technologies which purged a lot of capable engineers to lower costs and increase profit.

I live in China, I need a VPN that works and after Kape bought Express, their service has been complete crap; it essentially no longer works in China and no expats here use it as it’s unreliable and unusable.

i actually thought the VPN was great, when it worked.

i got it specifically for my Russian friend. Where it hasn’t worked for nearly a year, they say they’re actively working on a solution. but after so many months I have to imagine they’re just lying. so I cancelled my sub

I’ve had Express for a year. No issues on iPhone or PC or Mac. It’s expensive so I’m not renewing

As someone who has been using it for about 2-3 years, their performance has not been that great as the years go by. Added their increase in price this year, I sadly would not be renewing.

Top notch VPN .have tried various but this rocks

I’ve had issues with EXPRESSVPN where Spotify has blocked all the servers and so I can’t access it until the VPN is switched off. Not great.

Yes, it sucks (basically doesn’t work in Russia from the certain moment)

Most people who have something positive to add don’t post :joy:. Nature of the Internet. Had expressVPN for 3 years and everything is honky dory. My one gripe is that Australia and new Zealand are a bit of a hit/miss with geoblockers, but there’s ton of other content to consume on the net.

Well, let me make some input here.

First of all, I think all VPNs should be aiming their services at places with high level of censorship and low level of freedom in general, like Russia, China, Iran and so on. Because, as it turned out, this is the key thing in 21st century - to let as many as possible people to get a free flow of information.
Excuse me, but the way most people in Europe use a VPN these days, which is almost certain for some entertainment, is absolutely laughable comparing to those problems people in countries mentioned above have.
And sadly, ExpressVPN has the main course to satisfy customers of European internet, which has NEVER been so restricted or blocked with lots of DPI and stuff

Up until 2 weeks ago, I praised Express, especially compared to Nord.

However, things seemed to have gone downhill recently when a lot of users couldn’t access Peacock or Hulu (I notified Express about it, which they told me it was a known issue). When it was fixed, I only found out via this sub. No email from Express. Then Google Cloud stopped working temporarily with Express. I had to update my VPN, which is no problem, but usually the application tells you do to so (again, I had to go to support). Finally, the price hikes. I also won’t renew, but I’m moving back to the US, so I won’t need my VPN by then.

I wanted to start using a VPN and tried four of them: Surfshark, Proton, Mullvad and Express. I stuck with Express. Found it to be the best, despite being the most expensive.

I have been using ExpressVPN for several years now without any problems on my iOS, macOS, or Linux devices. Unfortunately, I will be switching to Surfshark due to the recent price increase.

I’d say they are good but i just wish they used wireguard instead of lightway since its implemented better in docker.

The recent price increases on what was already a very expensive service has pushed most people elsewhere.

I would choose expressvpn over nordvpn and surfshark any day of the week, but i would choose mullvad over everyone.

I’ve had this vpn for 3 years now with no issues. I use it on my PC, phone, android box and Amazon cube with no issues. I do agree that the price is high but other options cannot do the job i need. Use to connect to different countries.

I have had some negative experiences with ExpressVPN, but…if you look at the NordVPN subreddit, there are a lot of gripes there as well.

I’m coming to think that no VPN works perfectly all the time.

I use it and have no problems. But why would you expect someone to post when something works as opposed to having a problem with it?

Suckiness depends from person to person. Everybody uses the VPN for different things and it behaves differently. Best for you to try it and determine if it sucks for you or not.

Many comments below are helpful.

is it actually good to hide yourself?

No VPN can hide you. At most it’ll mask your IP and geolocated you somewhere else.
