Very confusing looking at all the “solutions”. Bitdefender Antivirus, Internet Security, Total Security, etc. I am done doing Windows 10 updates, so I want to protect my PC from malware including ransomware. Which version of Bitdefender will do that?
Im no expert but I bought total security from Newegg on sale. It has everything I want. I don’t use, or need, their vpn so I don’t care about that. I also don’t use their password manager and other tools. I just wanted the av, ransomware protection, firewall, and malware/phishing tools.
It depends on your needs, and budget.
Usually, most people choose Total Security, which is kind of the default (5 devices, any OS).
But if you want to protect all of your family devices (up to 15 devices), choose Family Pack.
If you plan to use its VPN regularly & without limitation, use Premium Security (10 devices). I would not recommend it for its Password Manager because if you want to stop your payment some day for any reason, you’d be bothered with this feature. So it’s mainly for the VPN and comfortable devices coverage.
If you want an overkill protection with a Bitdefender team to monitor if your real identity is on the Dark Web or misused online, take Bitdefender Ultimate. (10 devices) Most expensive.
Avoid Antivirus Plus which doesn’t offer complete protection features.
Avoid platform-specific deals (Mac, iPhone, Android), which are locked on these platform (Internet Security plan also falls under this category, it locks you on Windows devices). All the solutions in the main list above work on all OS, which offers much greater flexibility.
Total security includes all the features from antivirus and internet security bundles.
The bundles are gradual so basically it’s as it follows:
Internet security will include all the layers from antivirus plus some features
Total security will include all the features from internet security plus some features
There is also the premium bundle that includes protection for the email as well if you need that
I have Internet Security since I recently became a paid subscriber and honestly though I would go with Total Security because that’s pretty much what everyone chooses
Avoid Antivirus Plus since that just adds on some stuff from the free version plus it only provides basic protection vs Internet Security and Total Security which both have advanced features like a firewall and protections for webcam and microphone which are neat features
I just switched two bit defender total security today on a trial and I have to agree with the comments. I’ve seen here so far. I was a little concerned about switching to pay for potentially as many as four devices but I think even just after a day, but defender is much more user friendly and feature rich than I expected. also., even as a free trial. I got immediate alerts. if some aspect of my operating system was under attack. that’s a little alarming to see, of course, but not if you’re used to it from other programs such as Norton. Why did I give up on Norton? You might ask.? I have a very simple answer… Norton became very pushy. with up selling. and also very difficult to use on Android devices. also Norton. missed a very serious virus that. other software I changed to afterward caught. Why not stick with the software that caught the virus again? Simple. Too expensive. After a while, it’s just too difficult to ignore a constant ads and pop ups on your system when. you are already a paying subscriber… So today. I turned to bit defender hoping to turn over a new leaf on. cybersecurity and viral protection.
Not exactly. It also lacks Cryptomining protection and extra Firewall (and device optimization but that’s not necessary for an antivirus).
And it covers less devices.
You can use the VPN, but only 200MB/day, and 6GB/month max (basically, it will only be useful if you are short on data and need wifi for emergency cases when you’re regularly in an airport, train or a café and absolutely need to perform a quick connection on open networks or situations like that).
