What VPN do you use? I am fed up with Hotspot Shield

I want something cheap/free that actually runs like a native OS X app, unlike Hotspot Shield.

Private Internet Access. Best VPN by far for all platforms.

I use my own VPN server. L2TP/IPsec tunnel.

What do you guys use in liu of Peer Guardian?

IPVanish, no probs so far

PureVPN is the cheapest I’ve found. 24/7 support is probably their strongest selling point. Prices are good too.

OS X has IPSec built in. I connect to a box running pfSense.

I use AES-GCM (new to El Capitan) to get around 500Mbps actual throughput.

I laugh like hell at people who run OpenVPN on Macs.

(Yes, my home connection is 1Gbps/1Gbps.)

ExpressVPN, just like PIA but with DNS support.

What does DNS support mean? You can change the DNS settings of things like AppleTV, Xbox360, etc to use VPN service.

If you sign-up using that link, you and I get 30 days free.

edit: 2 months with them now. no complains yet. I’m in Canada BTW. I use them 24/7. Even on mobile.

+1 for PIA. Barely slows you down compared to your normal speeds, lots of encryption options, cheap and seemingly effective.

Another vote for PIA. I use an openVPN client with it called Viscosity (Viscosity - OpenVPN Client for Mac and Windows). It’s a well made native program that has more features than I will ever use. It makes using the a VPN incredibly easy.

I gave it a shot and while the speeds were acceptable, it didn’t work out for me. Hulu nailed it right off the bat. I’ll stick with my other service, which is neither cheap nor free.

Yep, PIA for sure, 5 simultaneous connections for one account, it’s stable as hell too

Depends on your uses. They have great speeds and affordable prices, but personally I don’t want a VPN that’s based in the United States.

but doesn’t have DNS support :frowning:

Aren’t they US based?

This is what I use. It’s fast and easy like your mom.

What’s so funny, Giggle Tits?

Is IPSec/AES-GCM faster than OpenVPN?

This is interesting. Any links for the setup you use? I use OpenVPN to connect to my own OVPN server that’s hosted elsewhere. I have IPFire running in a VM on my Mac mini, which is connected to a switch (any of my equipment that’s always on the VPN is hardwired to said switch). I only have 100Mbps available to me, and average roughly 30-50Mbps via VPN…which is more than enough for me.

I also find (as I travel) that some mobile networks block some VPN providers. Thus far, OpenVPN hasn’t been blocked at all.

Google Fiber user here. I use PIA. Max download 50 Mbps. So it is a huge nerf from the 1000. But most people probably won’t notice.
