What kind of VPN is good to use in India? Any recommendations

Hey. As most of companies fled after VPN companies were told to store user data. What VPNs are you using free or paid. Any recommendations

Namaste!

If you’re looking for a free VPN then ProtonVPN (free unlimited bandwidth) or Windscribe (10GB free per month) should be your only options. The other ones in the market may offer free bandwidth but as expected it’s at the cost of your own data.

For most people the free ProtonVPN speeds are fine enough but if you’ve got the cash it’s always advisable to go ahead and support the companys’ mission by either being a paying customer or by donating to them (be it even one time). Always loved the mission that they’ve been working towards and they’ve also now become my replacement for Google Suite (they offer other privacy respecting services too such as Drive, Calendar, Mail).

In the paid category there a few other options as well such as Mullvad and iVPN.

Any RAM based VPN is safe to use. They can’t possibly store user data even if the govt asks for it. I use proton

In India anything works. Most restrictions are done in the DNS level only. So, even a free proxy would work great.

I personally host my own wireguard instance in an Oracle cloud free instance (among other self hosted services).

You get about 15TB of free egress and the Ampere free tier instance is good enough for much more than simple VPN. And it is supposed to be “always free”. Compared to other services, you’d only have one location as an option and Oracle might have less tolerance to uses like Torrenting. But nobody will be logging your activity.

Use Mullvad VPN it is bulletproof

I am using the free proton VPN, earlier they have the option to select from three countries but now the are not giving the options and automatically selecting any country. Have you tried any paid VPN .

not if u are on jio fiber.

Yup now they’re automatically selecting the closest server from your location which makes sense. It’s free with no logs and unlimited bandwidth already so not much to complain here.

Yes I’ve tried both Mullvad as well as ProtonVPN paid plans. I found that comparatively Mullvad has lesser servers as well as a little slower speeds. It really boils down to your needs tbh. If it’s just for casual usage I think any of them would work.
