What kind of math is this?

This seems to add nothing. I mean $2.98 × 28=$83.44, so how come this $59.60 came with such a lame calculation $2.98 × 20?

OP, I hate to burst your bubble but that’s not how you math this.

Similar story with this company.

Bought 3 years of their service and I set a reminder on my phone a couple of months in advance to either keep or cancel the recurring charge. Well before my reminder even came up, I saw a charge for a renewal. When I asked them to reverse the charge and cancel it, they refused until I escalated further and further. They didn’t seem to grasp that you can’t charge me for 3 years and give me 2 years and 8 months.

Never again with these guys

Maybe you’re just bad at math. In what world is two years 20 months?

The key here is that plus sign. Read literally, it says that you’ll get 24 months at 2.98 per month PLUS you’ll get 4 free months. That wording is troublesome. If i called and they didn’t honor it as written, i would have done the same thing and walked away, never to return. I’m not a litigious person, but i would be amused if a class action suit were to be filed.

Well, first of all there are 24 months in two years, not 20.

Second, quickly doing this in reverse shows you the actual issue:

83.43/2.98= ~27.99

So they’re trying to charge you for the full 28 months. (24+4=28)

What else is on the summary you aren’t showing us? What is that $232.12? And did they credit your farther down the summary for the $11.92 for 4 months?

Comcast math. It’s Comcastic!

In Iran we use ProtonVPN.

I think they have not prepared the order summary correctly.
$2.98 seems to show the average that is costing OP for the entire service period.
Theu should’ve included a price for 2 year period only, without including the 4 month free service period. It would’ve been approx $3.48/month.

Order summary should look like this:
2 years($3.47625/month) + 4 months FREE
Which averages to $2.98/month for 28 months.

If you need a VPN, go with ProtonVPN, it’s cheaper and I would trust it more than Nord

It says 2 years (24 months) + 4 months free right there. Your math is off.

TOR is free VPN tech, and it can be accompanied by Orbot, which is a free browser with incognito tech built-in.

What is the allure of a VPN? I can’t figure out why anyone would want to use one.

Maybe VPN’s don’t actually work and its just people wanting your money like cryptocurrency?

Not sure but I believe what they did is 24*old price, result minus discount, result / 28 so they tell you how each month for the 2 years + 4 months ends up costing you.

I gotta say, I too was really confused when I was trying to calculate how much I would get for an year. Pretty sure it’s meant to be that way

The kind they hope no one will pay attention to!

If a department store has a sign that says “Up to 50% off” and one of your items is only 5% off, you don’t blame the store. This is just sales literacy.

You are still paying the “full price” for all 24 months. The subtotal of $71.52 and final total of $83.43 comes down to a little over ten bucks in what’s probably tax. Plus 4 additional month that amounts to a 28-month subscription.

It’s likely the $232.12 comes from what you would have paid if you chose to pay for the shortest lived subscription, probably $7-9 per month. By paying for a longer commitment, the price comes down. Most businesses do this - commit longer and the loyalty is “rewarded” since they know they’re getting a lot more out of you.

This is just your everyday marketing and sales. Scummy? Maybe. But it’s not a scam.

I have been on a NordVPN group buy for a few years now and I am pretty happy. Total price divided into 6 parts.
