Hello everyone, this is the first post in this sub. I’ve been using brave for almost 2 years and i think it’s ok. It’s simple, but i noticed it is not as good as Edge in terms of performance. I’m using a laptop with windows 11, its a Lenovo Ideapad 5. I really like brave’s built-in ad blocker (i also used operaGX and the built-in vpn was sooo good). I don’t really care abt cutomization, i only need performance and privacy. What should i use?
if performance and privacy are the main things you want i would personally stick with Brave
edge for performance, and firefox/brave for privacy
edit: u can make edge (and just windows in general) a lot more private using some software to remove telemetry
if you search privacy, firefox is the best option. Remember installwith ublockorigin and descentraleyes (important extensions) and ifyou need more performance you can use the scrpit “betterfox”.
The privacy is a controversial discussion in brave browser, the affiliate URLincident, the collecting donations on behalf of content creators andthe dns leaks in the “Private Window with Tor” are some examples. In these cases is when the team behind brave not respoding with truthfulness and conviction, they only take it as a mistake.
Personally i recommend firefox hehe
Opera gx VPN is fake it’s just a proxy and I woudnt trust it. It’s their own proxy and all info about you is sent to them and the Chinese. 100% not private so big no. It is somewhat fast. Edge is one of the fastest browsers and pretty but you’ll obviously have Microsoft track everything there. Ungoogled chromium is faster than brave which I use as a backup. It has all the Google crap removed for tracking and setting it up is a couple minutes just watch a yt vid.
Maybe Firefox COULD be faster for you? For most it generally isn’t but could try it out…make sure to find a video on how to harden it to make it more secure and private.
But overall I think I recommend brave the most for it’s built in antifinger printing, webrtc something protection etc that doesn’t need additional extensions to be installed unlike other browsers. Firefox 2nd if hardened and ungoogled chromium 3rd but the fastest.
> i only need performance and privacy
you cant have privacy and peformace at the same time, or privacy or performance, the only browser that gives you a equal level of privacy and performace (high) at the same time is pale moon, but people don’t like it because of the ui, which is simply ridiculous, but if you want a browser that is more private than pale moon but slower, librewolf, if you want a browser that is extremely slow but extremely private (the most), tor, if you want a browser that is a little bit less private than pale moon but faster, lynx, or any other terminal browser.
also, do not use brave, opera, or edge if you want privacy, they all lie in your face and still have a large userbase, which is very sad and absurd.
Pale Moon (With tweaks and addons).
If you want Privacy, then you should avoid the Chinese owned spyware Opera, and their honeypot PROXY. In general, you should avoid chromium forks too, but Brave is the least worst there. Firefox forks are also okay-ish, but avoid Firefox itself.
I thought Vivaldi was pretty good in terms of privacy and performance.
Wht about floorp? It is better than vainilla FF? I tried Pale Moon but it seems old, obsolete and slow
yea but it seems like Microsoft Edge is better in term of performance. Maybe im wrong
thanks for the detailed answer, i’ll check out
Pale Moon is fine UI wise, since you can customize it. The lack of site compatibility and the arrogance of the forums are the biggest downsides
You can have both. I have both.
So it’s better brave than ff itself? Why?
It’s neither. It’s bloated, a chromium fork (and therefor about their average performance), and they suck at Privacy, what with giving you a unique install ID and sends it home together with telemetry like geolocation and identifiable meta-data every 24/7.
It is pretty good, yes. Not perfect, but better than most.
I’ll check it out, thanks
You are right, but it lacking in privacy features
np
also why did people downvoteit?
Site compatibility isn’t down to the browser, but the sites. Browser compatibility is more apt. A discussion we’ve had I think.
The forums aren’t arrogant either. They’re very friendly.
