What is the best and more secure VPN for torrenting?

I have seen many posts saying a handful of different things. Following an older format of verifying security I seem to be between these four but I have also heard that in the past Nord wasn’t a great option, but now I see a lot of people recommending it. Any help is appreciated. This is the post I used as a template when checking these VPNs. https://www.reddit.com/r/VPNTorrents/comments/rikthc/list_of_recommended_vpns_2022/?sort=new

VPN #1 #2 #3 #4 IPv6
PIA :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :cross_mark:
NordVPN :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :cross_mark:
AirVPN :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark:

ProtonVPN :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark: :cross_mark: :white_check_mark: :white_check_mark:

Proton, air, mullvad and ivpn.

My 2 cents…. I love PIA. Been rock solid and the speeds have been great. Proven in court 2x to keep 0-records. Ram-only servers, and wether I use the closest server or to farthest one/bottom of the list server I have had incredible speeds. I don’t know if this help you or not but, for me I can’t say enough good things about my experience with PIA

When it comes to choosing a VPN specifically for torrenting, I prioritize three key features:

  1. Support for Port Forwarding: This is crucial for maintaining good speeds while torrenting. Without it, you might experience frustratingly slow downloads.

  2. Socks5 Proxy: While this is optional, it’s useful if you want to torrent without the VPN or prefer not to use split tunneling.

  3. P2P Support: This is a must-have for any VPN you consider for torrenting.

My Personal Favorite: WindScribe

I absolutely love WindScribe for torrenting. Here’s why:

  • Port Forwarding: Yes, it supports this feature, which significantly enhances download speeds.
  • Server Locations: It has 45 servers in the USA, providing great options for connectivity.
  • Split Tunneling: While it lacks a Socks5 proxy, it offers split tunneling, allowing you to choose which apps use the VPN.

Bonus: Right now, there’s a sale for getting WindScribe for 3 years at $67 with a 15% discount if you give the website your email on a website called StackSocial. Without the discount, it’s priced at $80, so this is a great deal! The traditional price is 70$ a year.

Alternatives to Consider

While there are many VPNs out there, I recommend steering clear of Surfshark and NordVPN. In my experience, they tend to be slower due to not supporting port forwarding. Additionally, TorGuard should also be avoided, as they have banned torrenting on their USA servers due to a lawsuit. From my experience, I was unable to torrent on their servers because of this.

Here are a couple of alternatives that are worth considering:

  • ProtonVPN: My second favorite. It’s reliable and has solid features for torrenting.
  • PIA (Private Internet Access): Good option, but note that it doesn’t offer port forwarding on its USA servers.

Conclusion

You don’t necessarily need port forwarding, but having it can make a significant difference in torrenting speeds. If you’re serious about torrenting, I highly recommend checking out WindScribe and ProtonVPN!

Been using windscribe for a few years they are fine, no complaints
I chose windscribe because I specifically wanted Moldova as an option & I new they had Moldovan servers

I’ll second IVPN - no logs… they don’t even collect your email address.

With Mullvad it’s weird, I’ll have it on, open up my browser go to website and it says I don’t have a vpn

Any reason PIA was left off the list from that link?

Edit, never mind I found it - PIA was ruled out at several steps:

  • Dynamic port-forwarding and region restricted
  • Acquired by Kape technologies (not clean record)
  • Requires e-mail address to sign-up

that’s what i thought but the more i scrolled through the sub the more confused i became. thanks for your help

Maybe you have something set in your browser? I just got Mullvad and when I turned it on I instantly got google results from other countries and youtube also switched too. I am using Firefox with default settings.

Just about any vpn is going to require an email account… while some view Kape to be an area of contention ro some regarding their past… PIA has more servers than any other vpn on the market, some of the best prices, proven in court 2x to keep no logs and had been audited.

He forgot to mention PIA, those are the main 3 options

Hmm. Maybe this is okay to say here…. I was wanting to stream the game on “thetvapp . to” went to the ESPN channel and it says I need to use a vpn and that I didn’t have one turned on. Which I did have Mullvad on and connected. I closed the browser and restarted everything and cleared cookies. And still said I didn’t have a VPN when Mullvad was turned on. Maybe it’s the website?

If you care about privacy there’s better options. Mullvad doesn’t ask anything of you other than payment and even then you can literally do cash

I do care about privacy and that’s why I and many others chose PIA… to imply That people who use PIA don’t care about privacy is poor wording. While Mullvad and PIA offer good privacy and security … PIA offers port forwarding and unlimited devices while Mullvad limits an account to 5 devices.

You’re not even OP, I wasn’t even responding to OP. PIA has a no log policy, ie, it’s safe for torrents, end of discussion

PIA is owned by an Israeli billionaire and I don’t trust them. Israelis have some of the best software engineers on the planet and Israel is a partner of the US. I have PIA right now but am looking to get off of it.

PIA is awesome in my books… been solid since day 1. The features, price and what they offer are near impossible to beat. Best of luck with your endeavors.
