What are some good paid vpns? This will be my first ever vpn service purchase so I want to make sure I get a good quality one

Damn, between my gardens and my internet privacy New Zealand is looking less attractive to move to!

Ah, I see. Thank you.

What is the point of using a VPN as a US resident anyway?

Seems like a fruitless endeavor.

I’m confident if that were the case they wouldn’t be making the false claim they weren’t keeping logs. There’s a difference between not confirming and straight up lying about it.

I’m using the app only. I haven’t really invested in going the DD-WRT route yet still.

This is my major gripe as I’m having to flush it about once a month. I can get over the slower speeds begrudgingly but the constant need to dump it is making me not want to bother at all. I’ll take a look at AirVPN.

Damn that’s way more affordable than ExpressVPN… Do they block ports? Do they take BTC?

Ah weak sauce, thanks for the response though!

Yeah, I suppose there is no advantage when the service tunnels for you.

Going back to colo snooping traffic, if you connect to a VPN, then tunnel through said VPN to another, the first colo does not see your traffic. The second VPN is ideally in a non-five eyes country.

I like the Tails Linux idea, I’m going to have to try that.

Hide from companies looking to sue you for downloading copyright content? Maybe.

Why are you confident in that? If the US government orders you to keep logs, it will also come with a keep your mouth shut order.

If that happens, you have 3 choices:

  • Comply and continue operating
  • Close down
  • Get fucked

Look into pfSense as well. DD-WRT was a bit unstable for me in the past (router would freeze every 7 or 8 days).

With pfSense I’m running at ‘44 Days 17 Hours 47 Minutes 17 Seconds’ of uptime.

They do take BTC. Port blocking I have only experienced with SMTP, they told me it’s blocked because of the amount of spammers who try to use their service. I had to contact support, but within a day they had whitelisted me to allow it.

Private trackers would be the way to do that.

I mean my privacy is important to me, it’s not however life and death to me. I try to take all reasonable measures I can.

Thanks!!! I was looking for a VPN for my home router, family protection.

My dad’s Instagram was stolen: I suspect it was a lucky guess or a brute force but it’s been high time to get secure for a while now.

I recaptured the account and I don’t think he was specifically targeted, but I did think ExpressVPN was my best option till now, lol.

Going to buy a year for forty, not two hundred. It would seem that, well, NowI’mAllSet hehehehe

Well those aren’t always easy to get in or stay in.

Glad I could help! If you’re interested in a router based VPN make sure to ensure your router supports it before buying - not all routers can be configured to use a VPN service.

True but using a VPN for that purpose is like putting on clear blinds on your window for home privacy.

For nowTl the chances are low of the Government stepping in for the copyright host to get a warrant but yeah I wouldn’t go with a US option as a precaution
